60 degree
Hello Quilters, I am wondering how useful is the 60 degree ruler or rather are there different patterns for it's use? If you've made a quilt using this or know of a pattern using this ruler would you please show me? I have only seen one block sewn using two 2 1/2 inch strips sewn together and not a whole quilt top. In case I don't respond to each individually, thank you in advance, you all are always so informative and helpful.

60 degrees are what are used for Hexes among other things. I've used it for a clown hat, but that's probably just me on that one.
If you do a search on 60 degree quilt ruler patterns you will find many more ideas than I have. Edit: Sure, you can do a One Block Wonder without one... but it's better with! |
I am currently doing a tumbling block pattern. It uses diamond shapes with 60° angles.

A member recently posted a fabulous quilt using 60 degree ruler. Here is a link. https://www.quiltingboard.com/pictur...d-t309438.html
Also look at Jaybird Quilts. She also has many patterns using 60 degree triangles although she has developed her own rulers you can make many of her patterns using other brands of 60 degree rulers. http://www.jaybirdquilts.com/p/patterns.html |

I made Boomerang by Jaybird Quilts, as Feline Fanatic said, she has a lot of designs that use the 60 degree Ruler, I love triangles in quilts in any degree. They add a wonderful element beyond squares and rectangles and also provide a challenge for those who like to learn new techniques.

I think that 60* is one of the most versatile shape in quilting right behind squares, rectangles and triangles.

I agree with Tartan. Also be aware that there are different types of 60 degree rulers. Some show the measurements along the side, while others measure from base to point. You sometimes need the different measurements for different patterns. Also some have a blunted tip, while others have a sharp tip, and there are reasons for both.

This is a favorite pattern I hope to make one day. This is for diamonds.

I can't get pictures to post since the change in the website, but google "not your grandmother's flower garden" quilt images and those all use 60 degree Triangles.

I was looking at the 8 1/2 inch 60 degree triangle I think from Creative Grid , the one that not supposed to slip. Is that a good one?

The 60 degree Triangle table runner and the Triangle Frenzy Table runner using border prints are made with a 60 degree ruler. I have and love the Creative Grids one.

Karen Griska's Honeycomb pattern uses the 60 degree ruler. It's a string quilt - love it! |
The kalidoscope quilts by Donna Jordan and Eleanor Burns need a 60 deg ruler. Do not confuse with a tri-rec 60 deg! They are not the same. If you like triangles, I'd recommend adding a 60 deg ruler to your supplies.

I made my grandson this quit using the 60 degree also known as rhombus shape. This particular template is the large size at Missouri Star. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h17ta6t_K-8 It was easy. He loved the big stars made from different colors of blue batiks with white background.

I like the Clearview Super 60 ruler, which allows cuts of 30, 60, and 120 degrees. |
The Creative Grids ruler was designed by Krista Moser, there are 2 sizes, I have both. She has a website www.kristamosier.com where you will find her patterns and rulers for purchase. You can find tutorials by her on YouTube and at Fat Quarter Shop. I just finished Entangled Sky pattern and have Semaphore Stripes ready to start. Also be sure to check out her blog and tutorials on her website.

The tri-rec is definitely not a 60 degree ruler.

60 degree diamond vs MSQC Rhombus template
Is there a difference in a 'typical' 60 degree ruler and what MSQC calls a Rhombus template?
I love the quilts from Jaybird Quilts but wonder which ruler is the best investment. Opinions? Thanks! |

Mini Diamond Ruler by CG
1 Attachment(s)
I recently used my Creative Grids 60 degree mini diamond ruler for the 1st time. I loved making this diamond quilt as the blunt corners made this a breeze to assemble and the points (nearly) perfect! This version of the ruler is 4 1/2" and I like the 'scale' of the diamonds for this large batik throw/lap quilt. If I were to make a larger quilt or wanted a more bold look I'd likely want the larger ruler.
|
I must be an idiot then because I'm having a time with my 60 ruler. (No really - I think its me not the ruler) I have the blunt tip
