Keep checking Kijiji. You often see them in the $200-$300 range. Where are you in Southern Ontario? A lady in my guild wants to sell a couple of Featherweights and you could probably buy one for $250.

They are beautiful little machines and if I could get one for $150 or less, I'd like to own one--but for sewing quilt tops, mending, and everything else, I want a modern machine with all the bells and whistles I can afford. That means a lot less than $600 for a lightweight machine that will slip into my wheeled case and go with me wherever I go.

You can find a Featherweight for less than $600, but only you can know whether the machine you areconsidering is worth the better part of $1,000 to you. froggyintexas

I'm not sure where you are in Texas, but I know at least 6 women who own and use their FWs, including me. I use mine only for piecing tops. I don't know about you, but I only need a straight stitch for piecing; I don't use any bells and whistles. I do use decorative stitches when I am machine applique-ing and quilting, but not for piecing. I also bought a Martelli binding system at Festival in Houston a few years ago, and one of my FWs is my dedicated binding machine.

Haven't read all posts but my daughter paid almost that much for mine because she wanted a 1936 model. She paid waaaay more for one for herself.
