Is 7 oz cotton suitable for quilts?
 

Just wondering your opinion on 7 oz cotton for quilting. Is it too stiff? Could it be mixed with 4 oz. which I read is typical quilting cotton? I got a really pretty piece online for really cheap- can always use it to make a bag if wont work for a quilt. Just curious.....

Cotton Duck is 7 oz. Is that what you have? It's normally used for medium weight draperies, lightweight upholstry, pillows, home dec kinds of things. If mixed with the lighter weight quilting cotton in a quilt, I'd be afraid the lighter fabric would rip/wear in the seams. I think it would be great for a bag though and maybe you could use quilting cotton as the lining.

I kinda thought that'd be the case. It hasn't arrived yet, but I loved the look of it so much that figured quilt or bag, either one would be fine for me. I got 1 5/8 yd for $8. That included shipping! I'm going to hit my LQS Tuesday in search for the piece I need for the quilt since this won't work. But that's ok. I love making bags, too.

Sounds like a plan! Personally, I'd be tempted to make a stuffed duck from the leftovers...you know, a 'cotton duck'. *giggle*
