7 x7 Quilting Square

Is there a 7 x 7 Quilting Square available? Where can I find one to purchase? Thanks

lauriejo 02-10-2013 04:10 PM

http://www.quiltknit.com/5547-RU-7-X...re_p_2338.html I found this one, but it seems a little expensive to me. I have heard you can get plexiglass cut to a specific size at the hardware store.

Geri B 02-10-2013 04:20 PM

Why do you need that specific size?

mrsmail 02-10-2013 04:28 PM

A quilt pattern that I like to use often, calls for 12 blocks that size, and I usually fussy cut them.

mrsmail 02-10-2013 04:30 PM

I really want that square. Went to the website and it is out of stock? Anywhere else I might find it?

lauriejo 02-10-2013 05:02 PM

Try this one http://www.kayeengland.com/cut-for-the-cure-7x7-ruler/

I have a 9" square, and if it was me, I would just use it to cut 7" squares...or any size up to 9"...it is an omni ruler and has markings for every inch, half inch, quarter inch and even eighth inches.

As someone else said if you really want a 7" square, you could get one cut at a place that cuts glass for windows, etc, they would also do plexi glass.

I agree with getting a square cut out of Plexiglas. Cheap too. Probably won't be more than $5-6. You can get this done at a glass shop or a hardware store, Lowes, Menards or Home Depot could do it too but I believe they will make you purchase a sheet of Plexiglas whereas the glass shop will just charge you the cost of the 7" square.

I get templates cut at a mirror and glass store. The workers there are extremely precise and the price is right for that precision. froggyintexas

Ace hardware will cut the plexiglass to size and you will have the perfect 7x7. They cut mine for free, I just paid for the plastic

Well I guess I not the only one that wanted a 7X7 square. A 7X7 would give nice 6 and 1/2 inch finished blocks or if you sewed 4 together, a nice 12 and 1/2 inch block.

Thanks. I just ordered it. I have had some cut in the past, but sometimes, they are off just a bit, and I don't like that. Sewing a perfect quarter inch seam is precise enough with out being off just a bit on the corner. It is worth the extra to me to have a perfect square. I will use that square a lot.

If you have to purchase the plastic, why not get one a piece a little larger and have another special size cut?
I was thinking I wanted the exact sizes for pattern I use to make quite often. I always take my rulers and put neon tape on the lines I need to cut, but this would be so much better.

My husband makes me any size I need at work. :)

Batting Buddy is a 7" square and a 9" square used in Fun and Done. If I remember right.

Yes, I have gone to the big home improvement stores and bought a sheet of plexiglass and had them cut templates the size I want. There was no problem, they were exactly what I asked for and much, much cheaper than the LQS templates.

I use June Tailer shape cut. You can cut any dimension (within 1/2 ") up to 12". It was my answer to no cutting talent.

anniesews 02-12-2013 11:19 AM

I had some plexiglass squares made and they work very well for the larger blocks I wanted to make.

Dretha 02-12-2013 11:29 AM

Yes I got plexiglass cut different sizes.

Selena 02-12-2013 02:46 PM

I have a Fiskars square that can be used for 1"-8". It's so versatile I love it. I bought it at Walmart but sure it's available anywhere.

tenngal 02-12-2013 03:09 PM

I give my hubby the size blocks I need and he goes to Lowe's and buys a piece of fiberglass and they cut it for free. I have all sizes of blocks and sashing ready to use!

tenngal 02-12-2013 03:10 PM

I meant to say PLEXIGLASS - sorry for the slipup. I've been busy all day trying to find an original FW cabinet.
