I'm 75 and started quilting seven months ago. Reading the posts on this board has helped me tremendously. I have learned so much from the quilters here. I make about one quilt a month now. Last week, my daughter gave me a Singer Featherweight 221 to take to quilting classes. I'm beginning to feel like a real quilter. As for computers, I've used them since home computers came on the market. My first computer was a TRS 80, then I moved up to an Apple with 24 K memory. How computers have changed!
|
Funny you should ask. I use the computer, not only for enjoyment but also for business and I do quilting also. I cut my own quilt pieces and piece them, sandwich them and quilt. Some are quilt as you go and some are hand quilted on a frame. This is my life, Charlie Brown.

Today is my birthday. I am now 70. Love, love my computer and love, love my sewing room, machines and quilting. Can't seem to get enough material or projects to keep me going. Also really like to be outside working in my little rose bed and doing yard work.

In November, I will be eighty-two years old, our sixtieth wedding anniversary was last summer-celebrated with a great family reunion, I use the sewing machine a lot, still am making quilts and table runners, placemats, etc., and keep the computer busy early in the morning, and late at night. Both my parents had their ninetieth birthdays, and then some, I fully expect to do the same. piecefully, the old one

I am 75 and started quilting 4 years ago.
I made a living designing software systems and have been using computers since 1960. This last season I designed a drip irrigation system for the local Community Vegetable Garden. Been using drip irrigation for 30 years. But I can't seem to grow sweet potatoes. |
Well, I'm 83 and I quilt, use the computer and play cards. I got the computer about ten years ago when I started to research my family's history. The computer is a great tool for researching.
|
Congratulations on both accomplishments - reaching a healthy 76 and a happy 58th.
|
Congratulations on you Anniversary! I am 76 married 55 yrs. and love quilting and having my computer.
|
Ramona, I want to be like you when I grow up! I'm 67 - and plan on going strong for a good long while yet.
|
I will be 76 this month and have quilted for years. Learned to use the computer at school for grades and etc years ago, I love email, this blog and also do genealogy I do water aerobics three mornings a week, Queen of 68 Red Hatters, play bridge, go to dinner/ movie once a week and am active in my quilt guild. Last month I painted three shelves in my sewing room refolded all my material. I also have a flower garden, but have slowed down and some days it's hard to get to my seeing room.
|
I'll be 78 in December. Have used a computer since the 1980s and began quilting in earnest after retiring. My DDH (that's DEAR DEAR husband and I have been married 60 years and took our 3 'children' and their spouses to Maui last February to celebrate. I quilt every day and plan to keep on for many more years!! My morning begins with the quilt board!
|
I am 77 -almost 78 -- and have been married to the same man for 57 years. We raised 6 children, but the 2 oldest have passed away. I have been on line for over 10 years - my desk top pc has 2 monitors (great for doing genealogy) and I have 2 printers. I have 2 lap tops (just purchased one to use for only my machine embroidery software and patterns). I have been quilting for over 20 yrs - my hands are protesting doing hand quilting anymore, so I rent time on a computerized long arm quilting machine (and love it).

I wonder why anyone would ask this question. If they are on this site, they obiously use the computer, and why would they use this site if they weren't quilters. I am not yet 75, but if I was, I would be insulted by the question.

Happy anniversary

This thread made me smile. Last year my grandmother cleared out her sewing cabinet and sent almost everything home with me. She told her sisters that she would no longer be making the baby quilts she customarily made for new nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and great grands. She told me she was TOO OLD TO QUILT! (She used to take whole pieces of cloth like a panel, layer it with WOF pieces and an old blanket and tie it--she doesn't piece or do any other quilting than tying). She just turned 72! She won't learn to use the computer and now only breaks out her sewing machine for simple mending. I think the next time I go to visit her, I'll take a printed copy of this thread along with me! :-)

I am 76 and love my computer, lap top and love to sew and do quilting.

It is so obviously not!! My parents are living and active in their own homes, cars, lives at 86 and 88. My DGM died at 96. I'm grateful for the wake up call that there are waaaay more years left than I've allowed myself to plan for or even look forward to. Shame on me!! Time to reassess and reinvent myself; I'm checking into PT this week! Thank you all you wonderful, bright, alert, joyously alive, contributing women on this board! Jan in VA |
75 in april next year and do both .

I am 70, not very computer literate and just purchased an iPhone. Started quilting 1.5 years ago and never sewn before that. Belong to three guilds, 1 bee, and 3 GNO groups. Recovering from major cancer surgery and also have an autoimmune disease. Life does begin any time one wants, especially after retirement. |
I'll be 77 in September and made my first quilt for my first child in 1954. Have never quit quilting. I've used the computer for about 15 years at home and at work.
