http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4TIpatbf5Q they are kinda expensive. but it would be worth it to get straight seams. |
I've never seen or used them .. but here's a link to a video by her ... the tools look pretty interesting ... now to find out how much $$$$$$ they are.

hhhmmm not sure, couldn't you use a regular ruler and get the same result ?
|
I guess the justification lies in how often they pose a problem for you. I've never had anything come out so off that I considered discarding it. I think it's all in keeping that 1/4" seam allowance. I just keep squaring things up as I go. But, if you've had issues in the past with those little guys, maybe this would be a great solution. I don't know how much they are, but I think for me personally, I would pass.

I have her whole system, DVD and books. My DH bought them for me at a quilt show. I am sorry to say I have never used them or tried.
|
Wow, those are new to me.

I think that these tools would be great for anyone who has a problem with the 1/4 inch allowance, as well as for beginners (such as me), who need extra help in making sure that it is accurate and to save me time and headaches.

Making a test "block" is the method that works for me.
1) Cut three strips "my" version of 2 inches - they are actually a smidge wider because of the space between the cutter blade and the ruler - approximately 6.5 inches long 2) Sew them together - using "my" version of a 1/4 inch seam 3) Press the seams - however you prefer - I usually press them all to one side - some people press them open 4) Measure across the result- this should be 5 inches by approximately 6.5 inches. 5) If the result is NOT 5 inches across the three strips, I need to do some adjusting - a) If LESS than 5 inches - First, check the pressing to make sure there are no "pleats/crease" by the seams, - if that is okay, then I could place the ruler a bit differently so I get slightly wider strips - OR - I could make a slightly narrower seam b) If MORE than 5 inches - cut the strips a smidge narrower - or - make the seams a smidge wider Seams easier than messing around with those rulers. |
I would rather not have to guess at how to fix it. That is just me - what do i know - i am new.
