What size of sewing machine needle do you prefer when piecing? I don't mean paper piecing---just regular piecing.

I use a 80/12 or 75/11.
I would use the 90/14 for topstitching or sewing heavy fabric like denim or upholstrey fabric.

my thoughts, too.

My 1600 likes to break thread when I FMQ so I use 14 ball point. And I use 14 sharp on it when piecing with no trouble at all.

I use 75/11 quilting for piecing, thin shaped shaft great for it.

75/11 - the instructor I learned from said that (in their opinion), anything larger was like drilling holes.

75 for sewing, 65 for quilting if I am using very thin threads.

75 here for piecing;

75/11 for piecing...90/14 for quilting. Recommended by the shop where I bought my machine.
