? About a Quilt Top

I'm making a king size quilt for my bed. Got the top done but haven't put the borders on yet. I would like it to be wider. Can I just add a row of blocks down the sides? Pressing won't be the same direction as the rest of the top but would that matter to a LA?

Thanks

I do my quilts on a long arm, and am not bothered by which way a seam is pressed, unless there ends up a huge knot where too many seams collide. In my piecing, I have had to turn a seam halfway across the block to get the seams to nest. It has not caused me a problem.

Now, let us hear from some "real" long-armers......

I have a long arm, but not sure if I'm 'real' or not :o. As long as you press your seams well, you should be OK. Just the fact that you are asking the question makes me think you are careful in the construction of the top.

I don't LA for $$, but have assisted a professional quilter. The condition of the quilts that some people dropped off amazed me. Threads hanging everywhere, tops not 'finally' pressed, wavy borders, seams going every which way!

I added another row of Irish Chain blocks to a Queen size quilt because my friend didn't want to have a bed skirt. Being a quilter herself, she really wanted a bedspread.
