I've done it this way and it works great - trace/draw the outer edge of the shape then mark a second line between a quarter and half inch INSIDE the previous line. Before ironing on the fusible, cut out the center of the design on the inside line and rough cut the outer edge of the fusible as normal.

If what you have seems too stiff, try the windowpane method. You just frame the applique piece with the fusible- probably about 1/2"- 3/4" wide. That way it keeps it in place without having a lot of stiffness. I think Fons and Porter do it this way.

Thanks, before I buy new I will try the window pane method. You guys always help me!
