I need some advise from those of you who bought the Accuquilt. What dies do you recommend to start out with?? When you buy the die does the mat come too or do you buy them separate??? Now that you bought it, do you really love it? Is it worth the investment?? Please help me grrrr I'm so confused.
|
I was just about ready to buy the Studio when it went off sale on the website. Talk about Grrrr. So now I have to wait until it's on sale again:<
|
I just have the go. Yes, I love it, only wish there were more dies for it. There are ALOT for the Studio, not as many for the Go, but I could never have afforded the Studio!
|
Hi,I have the studio and a lot of dies.I do not use it nearly as much as I thought I would. If I had a do over I would not get one-it works good just do not use it much-I could have gotten a lot of fabric for what it cost-lol
|
I use my Studio alot. The GO is not gauranteed for life and the studio is. Worth the extra cost. It is steel and will hold up for a really long time. GO is plastic and looks really flimsy next to a studio.
The 2 1/2" die is a must. I use my triangles and squares a lot. I will buy more strip dies as they go on sell. |

The Go! comes with a multi-cut die and mat. When you buy additional dies, you need to buy the corresponding size mat separately. I have seen the Go!, dies and mats on sale for 50% off (recent JoAnn's sale online). At that price, or at 40% off suggested manufacturer's price, I think it is a good long-term investment. I think it becomes much more questionable in terms of worth if you pay full-price. |
I thought I'd buy the Go and later buy the Studio if I used it a lot. I'm happy with the Go and have no need for the Studio after all. I don't do mass cuttings and I don't loan my Go out to others. It's very well made. The mats are sold separately but they last a long time. I'm still using the same mats I started out with. I like the Tumbler die. I have all the dies except the rag quilt die and some of the appliqué dies. Those don't interest me. I pre ordered all the new dies. To me the Go and dies are like fabric. I may not use it everyday but it's there when I want to use it. In no time I can have all the shapes cut I need for a quilt and no cutting mistakes. There are many videos on youtube showing tips and tricks to use the dies to get more shapes from them. I would buy it again and I did. I bought one for DD.

Where is the best place to purchase this?
|
I have the Studio and love it. I have never regretted the purchase. I decided to get the Bread and Butter starter set and have added other dies as I needed them or when they go on sale. I now have other quilters who have me cut pieces for them. The cuts are quick, easy and precise.
|
i have the studio and still have not used it,i got my with a 12"block start,er kit
|
I have it and LOVE it! I don't regret it at all. You won't be sorry if you buy it!
|
I have the Go and yes, I do love it. I bought the 2 1/2" strip cutter right off. It sure is nice. And then I bought all of the 6 1/2" pieces that go together. I also got the large rag die, it has really paid for itself. I've made so many tops with that one already. I think it is well worth the price. I would not have room to put the Studio anywhere in my house. So the Go works good for me, and I can take it with me to our little sewing bees and let others use it too. Oh, yes, you do need to buy the mat that goes with the die you purchase. But several dies use the same mats.

are the Go dies the same size as the sizzix dies? could you usw the Go dies on the Sizzix Big Shot?

I have the Studio and absolutely LOVE it! I like it so well that I don't do quilts unless I can cut them out with the dies I have!
For me, I can't live without the strip dies (all of them!), the half square triangle dies (all of them too!), and the 2, 2-1/2 and 3 inch block dies. |

They usually have a 50%off sale right after Christmas and I will be ready for it this year lol. You can only buy the studio from the company. It does take up room but it very worth it to me.
I cut quilts for charity on a large square and if I never bought another die I would be satisfied. I do need that rag die though. It will safe me days as I have fibro and arthritis so all that clipping is a real pain. They have 20% sales quite often. on the studio. I belong to a group on YAHOO that is for both machines and we get lots of info and heads up about sales and patterns. I also love my tumbler die. Finishing a flag quilt now that is super easy. |
All the information is on the Accuquilt website. Everything you want to know about the Studio or Go. I haven't found any newer product that does not have a website about it.

Studio dies and the cutter itself can only be bought direct from AccuQuilt, shop when they have sales!
A MAJOR plus for the Studio is that all the dies for AccuQuilts AccuCut (Grand Mark) work with the Studio. Most of those are applique shapes, but they have everything under the sun. So you can pick not only from the Studio dies, but these as well: http://www.accucutcraft.com/ and http://www.accucuteducation.com/ |
here is a neat quilt pattern using the GO. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDSNU...eature=related

My advice if you have a friend who has one see if you can use it. I have a friend who has one and I use the 2.5" strip the most. We've cut out a lot of drunkards path. It is wondeful for curves-anything with a curved seam this thing is excellent. It's also good for applique.
But honestly for the initial price of the unit, how expensive each die and mat is and how careful you have to be in cutting and placing your fabric to avoid excess waste for most things I don't like it. I find you have to practice alot to avoid excess waste. But that is only my opinion. I know people who absolutely love it and won't go back to cutting the old way if they can help it. I recently won a baby go off the accuquilt facebook site. It comes with nothing. I feel that it's a "lost leader", we'll give you this cool little toy and you only have to buy the dies at $30-50 each and the cutting mats at $7 or so. But hey it was free, I'll borrow dies from my friend until I find a good price for dies. |
I love my Go and Studio...to me its worth the money. I like how I can cut all my pieces and finish a quilt in a weekend....though I normally take two weekends. One weekend for cutting and sewing the top and then the next weekend for putting the top, batting and backing together, FMG'ng and then putting on the binding. and very, very little waste...just cut your strips instead of folding them on the go or studio...less waste than cutting with a rotary cutter.

My mom has the Accuquilt. Not the little one but not the huge one. The in between one.
She got the 2.5 inch strip one when she got the machine to be able to make her own Jelly Rolls and she got the 5 inch square to make charm squares. She has gotten the 2 inch and just got the 1.5 inch one off Amazon since she got the machine. She can get a normally $80 die for $52.96 and prime shpping (which is free for us). She used it for the first time by herself yesterday and loves it. I've used it to cut stripes for her last quilt and she was amazed how fast and easy the stripes went together when they are cut right. No more smiling jelly rolls :-D She is happy as a clam. Cut out all the pieces for the entire quilt in less than an hour. I love it too. |
I am buying one today at Nancysnotions.com. The deal they have is the best I have found. You get the Go, three dies, two mats and a book titled "Wearables on the Go" for $299. Right now I have free shipping until Friday. I'll bet it you call them and tell them you would buy it if you got the free shipping, they would honor it. I have never heard of anyone having problems with returns to Nancysnotions as they treat their customers very well. The Go was on sale this weekend at Joann's for $199, but all you got was the cutter, no dies, mats or book. I think it's worth the extra $100 to get the other stuff that comes with this offer. The Go is priced at $349 in most places I've seen.

You can get the studio for under 400.00 on the Accuquilt site and the Go for around 200.00 and sometimes cheaper on sale. I bought mine for 200.00 a year a go and my friends have purchased them for 200.00 or less. Check Amazon and make sure to get free shipping.

If you have the big shot PRO you can use all dies except the really large ones that are for the studio http://www.sizzix.com/product/656250...nly-periwinkle I actually have the purple one with the extended trays so there are MANY more dies I can use! |
Since I posted to this, I have decided the rag die and other applique dies do interest me! I have most of all the dies now. The Studio has been on sale for $399! That's not much more then what I paid for my Go three years ago.

No, the mats do not come with the dies. (they make more money if everything is sold separately. LOL I have the Apple Core, the larger Tumbler and the big Rag square dies... |
I never use the die that came with the Go and mats are under 7.00. No need for the book...its very easy to figure out a pattern. I would not pay over 200.00 for the GO. And I love it and have one. I recommend the Tumbler dies, the 5 inch square and the 8 1/2 inch square, and circle die to start with. If you have the extra cash...the strip dies. Rememeber when looking at the cost...you do not need every die...get the ones that you would use often or if there is a special quilt you have been wanting to buy but do not like cutting like the drunken path. My husband and kids are always wondering what to get me for Birthday or Christmas gifts...now they know...; ) Oh and replaceing my mats every serveral months is cheaper than replacing rotary blades...now I only use my rotary blades to cut the little strings here and there.

No, the mats do not come with the dies. (they make more money if everything is sold separately. LOL That is not the reason...the dies don't wear out..the cutting mats do. So you are always replacing the mats. The cost of the mats is really reasonable I think. |
I use mine so much I would go buy another and pay more if mine broke. I'd give up my rotary cutter before my Go. I was thinking of buying the Studio but I'm happy right now with the Go. All my blocks I sew using the Go shapes go together perfectly every time. I get exactly the size I'm suppose to have. To me that is amazing. LOL
|
I love my studio. When money is available again I want to get more of the strip dies. I use my 2 1/2" all the time.

My hub tried to be real sneaky and bought mine for me for Christmas last year. It arrived a week or so before Christmas...It was agony to sit and look at a great big box that said accuquilt on the side. LoL! But I was a good girl and didn't touch it until Christmas. =) I am glad that I have it and I use it almost every day. Its a huge time saver. I started out by cutting all my fat quarters in various shapes. I have slowly ordered the dies..getting what I consider a good buy as they go on sale. My stash is dwindling as I cut. I got little plastic boxes that stack on my desk and I keep my pieces organized. I really love it. I recently ordered a butterfly die from the accucut side and am waiting for it to arrive. According to the site its compatible. The options out there are endless. I was worried when I got it and it costs so much $$ that it would just be another gadget I had that collected dust..but not so. Its used almost as much as my rotary cutter. =)

I just got an email from Accuquilt and the studio is on sale for $395. Is that a good sale? Hope it helps those who missed it last time.
|
I have the Accquilt Go and love the tumbler. I do also have others but have not use them yet.
|
just got notice from Accuquilt about the studio..it is still on sale at their site!
