Accuquilt and apple core
OK, I have borrowed my friends accuquilt go and bought the apple core die. Am I correct - this die uses loads of fabric and wastes loads? I have a stack of hand dyed fabric but not sure whether to sue them or not. I seem to only get 6 cores from one piece. this means I estimate I will cut 106 cores. It won't be a very big lap quilt.
I suppose it will be good practice for curve piecing! |
I don't have any experience with an Accuquilt.
However, because of the shape of the apple core, you're going to have wastage. When I cut them with a template and rotary cutter, I just layered my fabric and moved the template to avoid wastage, the best I could. |
you can move the fabric and have less wastage, I find I lose much LESS fabric using my go

way back when they laid the template on the fabric and drew around it then placed it the way it would have been sewen.
Clear as mud right, LOL anyway this way there was not so much waste. |

I just kind of turned it each direction to interlock the outside curve with the inside curve of the previous one when I was cutting. With a plastic template and a small rotary cutter I zipped along, pretty quickly! Clear as mud #2!! :) |
I could be the way you are laying the fabric on the cutter. You'll have some waste; just like if you are squaring up using a rotary cutter but if you are doing it right it won't be alot. I love mine. Talk to your friend and maybe she can help you.

Thank you I knew what you meant - like minded folks and all that. But aren't you meant to may the cores lengthwise on the cross grain? I am going to sew by machine.

It didn't make a difference when I did the apple cores.
... I did make sure that they were cut on the straight of grain, either cross or lengthwise. |
I have not had trouble with waste using mine. I do not understand what the problems is. I do not have this die so just not quite sure.
