Accuquilt Go Baby Help

I'm hoping someone can give me some tips on using this machine. I got a great deal on it yesterday at my guild meeting. But it didn't come with the cutting mat or any dies. The problem I have is the instructions that came with it seem very vague on how to use it. I went to accuquilt.com to see if I could get any answers but I didn't find much help. I also have a question about the cutting mats. I think I saw where you can use a 5x5 mat but I think I also saw that a 6x12 can be used. Can anyone that has one give me a answer? I want to be sure I buy the correct mat. Thanks for your help.

You buy the mat size based on what size die you use. Some are square, some are rectangle. If you have the larger die then buy the larger mat because it will cover the smaller dies too. The mat is consumable so you will be buying mats as they wear out. I buy mats when I find a sale. I always have a stash of new mats ready to use.

Thanks for the info. I'll definitely be looking for sales. The dies are too expensive to pay full price.

Maggie Lou, I don't know if you use Facebook, but there are a few sites on there for us Accuquilt folks. Great place for not only buying used dies (use some caution, make sure to ask how often it's been used so you know the blades are still sharp)....but the best part is being able to ask questions from folks with similar machines.

Just a thought :)

Oh, as to your question, OnebyOne is right. Although I have used bigger mats for small dies in a pinch (i.e. when I'm too lazy to get my butt off my chair to get the correct mat) LOL

Enjoy!

Thanks, redstilettos. I didn't think about FB. I'll check them out.

The dies seem expensive, but once you own one you wonder how you lived with out it......Have fun!

Friday and today, near the Thumb of MI, I was surprised to find the mats on sale at JAF for HALF off. Did not check prices on any of the dies as they had nothing I was interested in, applique shapes. Do not know if the sale will run much longer but I got some spares.
Got two of the 6x6", 2 in a pack for $3.99@ and also two of the single 5x10 for $7.99@. Will be using the 6x6" for my new 4.5" tumbler dies when it gets here. Have a lot of charity quilts to create from scraps.

Sign up on Accuquilt.com - they have sales, they have free shipping sometimes and dies you won't find in any store. Also, they don't charge sales tax so I am ahead there too. Accuquilt has a contract with the companies that sell their dies they will only put the on sale when Accuquilt puts them on sale. (Not all shops put them on sale though I found out.) When I was visiting in AZ we wanted to buy a die that was on sale on the website but the store had it marked at full price - so I mentioned I would just order it from Accuquilt and they said it was their policy to match the website but don't put up signs to let anyone know. So my friend now checks the website before shopping.
