Accuquilt Go! Strip Cutter
 

Some months ago I took the plunge and got an Accuquilt Go! I absolutely love it. What a time saver! And my pieces are so incredibly uniform, too. So ... today I was at Joann and saw that dies were on sale for 40% off. There wasn't much there, but I saw a strip die and picked it up. I have to say that it was really a lot harder cranking that looooong die than it is with the others. Now I'm wondering if I will keep it or bring it back.
Anyone have experience with them? What do you think? Worth it?

I have several of the strip cutters and it is harder to push through but the accuracy is unbeatable. It hurts less to crank than to use my rotary cutter! I say keep it and only cut one piece of fabric. If it is a 2-1/2 inch strip cutter use one layer of fabric cut the width of the fabric. It will be easier to turn. It does save time even with just one layer. Remember it gives you 2 to 4 strips prefectly cut. Have fun with it. Luann in CT

I don't have them as I like the june tailor shape cut and most that have both use their june tailor because it is faster, so I thought why waste money if I do just fine with the june tailor. Its not worth it to me

Luann, I doubled it up because I got a much longer strip that way. As long as you keep the fold within the cut so it isn't snipped off. Will try with a single piece, but still pondering...

I personally prefer using the June Tailor Shape Cut for cutting strips.

With the Accuquilt, what I don't like is that the strips develop a ripple (from the fabric stretching under the rollers) about halfway through so I have to lift up the mat and pull the fabric once or twice. If I don't do that, a ripple gets pressed into the strips which also makes the edges in that area uneven. Also, I don't like the pre-cutting I have to do with the Accuquilt in order to be sure I am not wasteful of the fabric.

For me, it's actually quicker and easier to use the Shape Cut.

I will be watching this one because I have wanted to get the strip die (I have the Go Baby; not the regular); but so far I haven't found it on sale and it's a little pricey. Krystyna; please let us know if you figure out something to make it work better for you; if you end up keeping it; etc.

I have the Go and would buy another one. I use the 2 1/2" strip die the most. One thing I learned from my physical therapist friend is most have the Go and other die cut machines sitting too high. The handle should be about hip level. This way you don't have to lift up your shoulder to turn the handle.

I never saw the June Taylor before. I just watched a video on it and it looks GREAT. I like that you don't waste fabric like you do with the high end cutting "systems".

I just posted a question about this ruler a few days ago and received a lot of great responses! I love it. It's working perfectly for cutting the 1.5" squares I need.

I love my strip die but yes it is harder to get through the accuquilt but the end result is worth it. I also double it to get longer strips

I guess I'll see how it goes today. I have a bolt of black fabric from an estate sale, so that should be good to experiment with.

I have the 2 1/2" strip cutter and it's great. Gives me great accurate strips.

I love my strip cutters...I just added the 1 1/2" at 40% off at Joann's. It is harder but I love having straight strips. It is really much faster and more accurate. I say it is a "keeper"!

I just got a Go Baby and tried the 2.5" strip cutter tonight for the first time after seeing this thread. The first time through felt awkward but the strips were fine. Did a few more and it just got easier. This was using some unpressed fabric across the grain. I never had much trouble rotary cutting strips, but this is FUN with the cutter! :-)

I'm glad you are all liking the strip dies. I have been wanting one; but every time Joann's has theirs on sale, they don't have any and anytime I've seen them; they are quite pricey--more so than the regular square or hst dies and such. I have the Go Baby. Can anyone tell me where a good place to get the strip dies at a decent price? Thanks!

Krysti, if you actually go to the Go! site and write a bunch of reviews you'll get credits that you can use toward a purchase. And if you purchase something very small there, you will be sent a survey and that is worth a LOT of credits. It cuts down the cost of dies considerably.

I love my June Taylor shape cut for strips, I have a couple of them in different sizes - makes quick work of strips. I dislike cutting strips on my Go - June is so much faster. My space is limited, so I have to set up the Go, find the die that I want. I use strips alot, and can make any size blocks with the June Taylor just by doing a couple of cuts. Very accurate.

I use the June Taylor Shape Cut more to square up my blocks then for cutting strips.

Krysti, I haven't ordered from them but www.quilting-warehouse.com has all of their dies at least 30% off. The 2.5" strip cutter that fits the Baby is 35% off - Retail: $59.99 Price: $38.99. I'm not sure how much shipping is. I think it's free if you spend a certain amount.

I think the only other place where we can get any other strip dies for the Baby is the accuquilt website. They are listed under the "dies to try" section.

I do love using my AccuQuilt GO! and dies, very much. But, for typical strip cutting I find the June Tailor ruler to be faster & more efficient than the GO! strip dies. But, it is funny, as I find that I wouldn't use the June Tailor ruler when cutting up bits of scraps, yet I love using the GO! Strip die to cut up scraps that would typically get tossed. It is so easy to layer pieces of scraps, stacking them on top of each other and down the row of the strip die and ending up with very usable pieces. I can then slice them into pieces for blocks (e.g. 5", 6", 8") or easily stitch them into long strips to make a Jelly Roll Race Quilt.
