If you need to precut, anyway, why not just use the slotted stripology ( or similar) ruler, or one of those mats with a fence and you just push the cutter mounted on it back and forth?

In fact I have my big stripology ruller up for barter on another forum and my tucker rulers. |
I would suggest to only let others who have a Accuquilt know you have one. Lesson learned.

I have a Stripology ruler and would toss it way before I would the Accuquilt. No comparison at all. The Stripology ruler is handy for a fast cut but I can still get a miss cut using it.

some months later.... I am 100% satisified my accuquilt go electric was the best purchase I've made this year. Thank you all so much for your advice and suggestions. I m anaged to find it new for $499.00 and no tax. Talk about falling into luck.
And I just bought a tinsy cutesy little Go Me for the 5th wheel to travel with me. Too cute for words. this is what I've purchased some at hedious expense, some supder reasonable on the secondary market. Other than replacement mats I think I'm done shoppin'. --I got the 8" and 4" qubes with companion angles and corners, have used a ton of them. I finished the 40X40 wall quilt backing below with the kite shape with strings on the side, in 2 days. I'd never have cut kite project without the accuquilt cutter. --A multi strip cutter from blue wren that will do 1" to 6" I think it is. Shorter than accuquuilt dies which makes sense because I pretty much only cut scraps up to fat quarter. The expense of a long die is lost on me. ---I got 4 BOBs in a bundle special, 6". I know Spool and Crazy block (in progress below) are two, can't remember the other two while I'm sitting down here. ---a 3x6 flying geese came with the big cutter I thought I'd never use; already made a quilt for hospice out of my green gifted batik scraps left over from my project. ---3" charms, already have a quilt in men's shirts cut with it ---3" 1/4 sq and 1/2 square dies came with the little cutter seems like there was one more but that is enough to keep me busy forever. zero buyers remorse, although I wouldn't have considered it seriously if I hadn't broke my arm. I think the Qubes are a brilliant invention, eliminating the need for what seems like dozens of one job dies. anyway, happy quilting and thanks again. |
I have a lot of the dies before the Qube so most sizes will be repeated in a set. I think the Qube is a better value for new users. I really like the BOB dies. I have a lot of those.

I rarely use my Go Baby but It was a great help when I made a Hunter's Star quilt. I decided I never wanted to make another, so I traded the die with a friend for a bunch of batiks. I have a very small space for sewing and cutting, so I always have to put the thing away after use. That means I forget I even have it. I probably should use it more.

oh, and the old typewriter rolling table is perfect and space efficient to hold the Go electric and my dies all fit on one bookshelf. I'm pretty chuffed :)
OnebyOne, you mentioned here or somewhere on the board your alphabet dies have been used a lot. I've never put words on a quilt except for the temperature quilt. would you be comfortable sharing what you've done with those dies? If not, no harm, I've never seen you share a quilt here. |
