I asked earlier about the cutter and was given good response. Also do you find that there is a lot of waste when using the cutter? Also do you buy a 1/4 to a 1/2 yd more when using it?

I am saving to buy one. I want to see what others say about this. I have seen in other threads conflicting information on the topic of wasted fabric.

I have one but as a beginner quilter, have not used it much yet. What I have done, has been great- very little waste for me. I'm excited to use it more. I hope you get a lot of responses. I'm anxious to learn more myself.

I found I use less fabric when using the Go. I don't have any bad or miss cuts. I mark around the dies 1/4" with a black Sharpie and that is my fabric guide. So I have 1/4" waste, less then squaring up the fabric to cut with a rotary cutter after every few cuts. The cutting mats last me a long time because I buy several and use different sizes on dies so the cutting isn't in the same spot all the time. If the mat will fit over your cutting blade it's fine to use it. You don't have to cover the whole die. I cut paper/card templates, fusible, oil cloth, anything my scissor or rotary cutter will cut I can use the Go to cut. Using common sense the Go has given me perfect cuts, saves time, and saves fabric. The downside is I have very few scraps to add to my scrap pile.

I had more waste than I wanted when I first started using my GO, but as I got more used to it I have little waste. That doesn't bother me much because I love to make scrappy quilts, so there's actually no waste for me.

Someone will post the dies are too expensive. I have all the dies except some of the appliqué ones. Still cheaper then most new sewing machines.

I had mine for over a year, lots of dyes and a book with lots of patterns(my secret angel sent me the book).
I just wish i'd pull it out more often. Glad I have it, if you can afford it Go for it.

Can you believe I got mine in Apr and I've been so busy I haven't taken it out of the box...I need to do that. I even bought more dies for it without knowing how to use it.

I can believe it! I have new batting scissors, John Flynn quilting frame, new Go Dies, and a box of Aurifil l thread I haven't opened from last quilt show I went to. But at least I know where they are. ;)

I love my GO! I have 7 dies so far and will be adding at least 4 more as soon as I can. I use the 2 1/2 strips to cut binding and I just recently used it to cut 6 1/2 triangles to make my cousins wedding anniversary present and it took me about an hour to cut 200 of them from 4 different fabrics and they were all perfect.

If you cut the fabric to be a smige bigger than the item you are cutting its not that much waste and I am braiding mine as I go, not sure what I will use my giant braid for but something will come of it.

In the beginning you'll follow the directions about placing the fabric on the cutter and you'll waist material; but then you get smarter and do it your way. The one thing that I'll tell you is to make sure you pay attention to the bias because that will change the size of your block. Other than that; I love it. I make rag quilts for alot of people and that makes my life so much easier. I will go to Wal-Marts and get alot of flannel and spend one whole day cutting out material and do the quilting part of the block and then stack them up so that when I need to make one I pick out the appropriate block and sew them together. This machine is great; a big time saver. You can get the dies on sale alot; even on ebay.

I love my Studio cutter. I bought it because the die selection is so much better than the go. I do alot of applique and sell alot of appliques at quilt shows.

I love my go.. I have almost all the dies ( minus a few applique ones) I too have many back up mats as I go thru them quickly.. But Ill use the larger mats when they can no longer be used for the larger dies and use it with the smaller dies.. As long as the die is covered doesn't matter which one i use.. As for the the cost of the dies.. accuracy and less fabric waste makes this a bargain for me..

Can someone who has actually taken it out of the box and used it tell me something (mine in box)...I've seen them put the die thru on an angle and some do it straight...? Which way is right or does it matter...

It doesn't matter which way. Accuquilt has a great web site that offers tips as well. Some of the dies have the shapes at an angle those are supposed to have the material layed on them at an angle to make the cutting correct; per web site. If you are nervous about it then test running some pape thru it first to see how it comes out. One tip that was given up here that I think is great is to outline the shapes with a sharpie so they are easier to see. I try to minimize the wasted material so this is really important to me but if you don't care then cut the material the size of the die and it'll cover the whole thing and you'll be good. Remember to watch the grain of fabric; it will change the size of the block if you don't. Some fabrics I starch before working with them to help minimize stretching

I've had mine for over a year now and love it. Sure is faster than cutting with a rotary, and everything comes out right. I have 21 of the dies so far, am waiting for the 6 1/2" strip die. I know it's easy to cut 6 1/2" strips with a rotary, but with the Go you can cut 6 - 8 at a time! It will make great borders. And I do not mind the small amount of waste fabric. I like the idea of braiding them, might have to try that! A friend is keeping her's to make rugs.

I just got mine a month ago and love it. I've only used it one day....I cut enough fabric for 9 kids quilts in about 2 hours! So I won't pull it out again for a while.
