Such a cute little quilt! I've made a lot of these small appliqued quilts and one of the things I like to do is use buttons or beads in the binding. A simple bias binding with seed beeds sewn in the ditch adds a little interest. I also love to add an assortment of different sizes, shapes and colors of buttons to the edge. I use contrasting threads that coordinate with the quilt, or you can use the same color thread. The buttons also add a little weight so the quilt hangs well.
Here's an example of a bound border with seed bead detail. |
Wow, I never thought to mount the quilt on artist canvas. I love all the ideas coming my way! Thank you!

I wouldn't bind it nor add a border. I'd use a facing. That way the edge of your art quilt goes all the way to the edge with no distraction. I've faced wall hangings and really like the effect. If you google how to face a quilt there are some good tutorials. Here's a link to one with pictures. http://thesillyboodilly.blogspot.com...y-to-face.html

I would be hesitant to put a border on it because you have quilted it and it is not laying flat. I would just bind it. Very cute quilt. Can you tell us where you bought this pattern??
I made up the design out of my imagination after taking a workshop from Amy Stewart Windsor that Our guild sponsored. If I could walk into a fabric neighborhood, I would want a quilt shop, my house and a church! ....and of course kitty cats! |
The wonky houses (cute cute cute) screams for a fun border. I would put a black with white dots or black and white checkerboard border with yellow piping. A simple black binding.
|
So cute I would just add a black binding.
|
I wouldn't add a border. Everything doesn't need a border. The quilt will tell you; sometimes a border, sometimes a border on only the top and bottom; sometimes a border on only the sides . . . and sometimes no border at all! Your Wonky Houses is absolutely gorgeous! I wouldn't add a thing. I'd try to fiend teal blue fabric as close to your background as possible and bind it. Trust me on this. You won't go wrong!

Love this adorable wall hanging! It will be beautiful with or without a border.......but personally, I would add a light border with dark binding. Can't wait to see a pic of this piece finished.
|
I would add a yellow framing border and then a border of a pale teal and a stripe binding. Love the little houses
|
So darned cute! Definitely a border will finish it off.

I am asking for your help in deciding how to finish this art quilt I call Wonky Houses. The scene is appliqued to a fat quarter. I don't have any left over fabrics that have been used in the quilt. I was going to put a binding on it to frame the scene when a friend suggested I add a border and then binding. Sorry the photo doesn't show the details very clearly.
at fabric would you choose if doing a border? If only doing binding what color can you see working? Thanks for any advice you may have! |
That is so cute! No border needed. I say just bind it and enjoy the compliments!
|
Very cute! Lots of work it looks like. Do what you want. If it were me I would put a thin binding on it and a hanging sleeve. HOw about a dark solid to make the frame and a narrow one.

No border, black binding.

Finish the edge
