Addicted to Binding?

I have finally mastered hand stitching my bindings on, to my satisfaction. Now I want to do more. :p

I have been making potholders, so this is how I'm getting my practice. I have a 60" x 60" quilt top done, I just need to piece the backing (need my next check first). Then I'll get to bind that too!!!

I can't be the only one, can I?

I am another one who loves to sew on binding. It may be that the quilt is almost completed when I am sewing on the binding; but, actually, I think it is that I so enjoy hand sewing. When I first started quilting, I had trouble joining the binding; but now I even enjoy doing that. Best wishes with binding your 60" x 60" quilt.

Here is a picture of the front and a picture of the binding up close. Does it look ok? I'm still working on the corners.

I enjoy it also. It's great busy-work while waiting in doctors offices and car traveling.

Most sewing tasks are a joy once you master them. It does give me a feeling of satisfaction when I finish a nicely done binding. Your potholder looks great!

I love it too. In fact, I have a friend that can sew the larger blocks together but due to her age she is having more and more problems with the fine details (she is 86) and so I will do the binding. My corners are not always perfect which can be frustrating because I think I am doing the same thing and one time they will be perfect the next one it is a fight. (i equate it to making pies, when it is for the family the crust is perfect, when company comes looks like I dropped it one the way to the oven.)

Binding is one of my favorite parts of quilting. I like the hand work.

There must be someone you can trade with! Or maybe pay? If I lived closer to you I would gladly bind your quilts - I also love handsewing while listening to the radio or watching TV!

I'm with you, find it so relaxing. Also it's a good feeling knowing you have a quilt done!!!

Looks like a great job to me!!

Binding day is movie day for me. I line up several movies, or a TV series marathon, pick a nice corner on the couch, set up the side table with supplies, and blissfully bind away the day ;-)

I'm sure some quilting guild/group out there would love your help with binding.

Quite a few of our members - from each of my quilting guilds/groups - have decided to do primarily binding for our charity quilts.

One person makes the top, another helps cut the backing and batting and gets the material put together for the binding - another quilts - another does the binding - then still yet another may put on the label.

We each do what we are good at and enjoy doing. We also continues to make our own quilts.

I love hand-sewing binding. My neighbor hates it. We have a great system going where he'll machine-sew the binding onto his quilts and then pass them along to me for the hand-sewing. And then he pays me!!

momto5 07-24-2012 03:58 PM

Looks very nice...wish I had the patience but the machine takes over for me...that's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

paulswalia 07-24-2012 03:59 PM

I think you are doing a wonderful job. I also love binding. Partly because it means the quilt is finally finished, but also because I feel I do a good job and that makes it satisfying.

nannyrick 07-24-2012 04:08 PM

You have done a wonderful job!!! Wish mine were as nice. Thanks for showing.

Looks great and nice metered corners too. You should take up appliqué.

DACO48 07-24-2012 06:05 PM

I too, like to put on bindings, sometimes one of my friends and I trade out. She has a long arm and quilts my quilts, I put on her bindings.

It seems that sewing bindings has turned me into more of a hand sewer. The first quilt I hand bound took me such a very long time. Now it is a breeze except for mastering those miters. I now have 2 projects underway with hand turned applique. It's a new exploration of threads and needles.

I like to do binding, too. Maybe we should start a binding business. LOL

rootyr 07-25-2012 03:03 AM

I love doing bindings and do all my daughters for her.

Delta 07-25-2012 06:10 AM

not many love to do binding. I machine my binding on the top and hand sew it to the back. That is the best part for me. I sit in my recliner something to drink, tv on cat on foot stool part and I am good to go.. lol:thumbup:

karenpatrick 07-25-2012 06:18 AM

I don't mind the binding. It means my quilt is almost finished.

Trying to figure out binding on Grandmothers Flower Garden quilt. Would love to keep the irregular shape. Still in progress. Nice topic!
