Hi everyone. I am making a log cabin queen sized quilt that I would love to just machine quilt the complete center part of the quilt and then add the borders after. The throat size of my machine will make it very hard to stuff the whole quilt through if not impossible. Anyone ever done this? Thanks in advance for your help. All of you guys are just wonderful! :D

Yes that is what I did on my king size log cabin and it does make it easier I did have the backing on with the quilt but not the batting added that when I added the borders.

Newbee's suggestion is a great one, it takes away a LOT of bulk, and all you have to do is add the additional batting as you get to the border areas.

QAYG methods would work well with this too. There are many methods to choose from :D:D:D

this sounds like a case for the "Quilting in Sections" technique I've been investigating. Your border would be sewn to the top like regular, but you put batting only in the center and quilt up to 6" away from the edge of the batting ... then fold back the borders and zig zag (or fuse) the shorter pieces of batting to the edges and quilt the rest of the quilt. Hard to explain maybe. Google "Quilting in Sections" and there are two books I found on Amazon. MUCH easier than QAYG.
