Adjust for larger quilt?
 

Any recommendations on what to do when you want to make a quilt larger? It seems like most of the patterns I am interested in make small quilts.

Make more blocks so you can add more rows.

Do extra blocks but you could also add wider or more borders. Draw a trial to see if it looks balanced.

Some blocks are easy to resize.

As you can see by the responses, lots of options! For me, it's generally just add more blocks if I need to have it lots larger. If it's just a bit larger - more borders!

You can also add sashing or enlarge the width of sashing that's called for in the pattern.
When you add additional blocks, take a look at the secondary pattern the blocks make. If the pattern originally had an odd (or even) number of blocks, you may need to add enough blocks to keep that configuration.

You can either increase the size of the blocks or add more blocks to the pattern design. That is why I LOVE EQ7. Makes resizing quilt patterns so easy.

Once you've determined the finished size you want, then you determine the number of blocks each way needed to reach that size. If you don't have EQ, graph paper is your best friend, especially if sashing is involved.
