Advice on choosing block size for Hunter's Star please
I am planning to make a Hunter's Star using the accuquilt go instructions with squares and half square triangle units. It will be queen size. My problem is I can't decide whether to make 12 inch blocks or 8 inch blocks. 12 inch blocks will go faster but 8 inch blocks will have more of a design. I have 6 yards of each of 2 colors. Do you think that is enough if I choose 8 inch blocks? For those of you that have made this pattern before, do you remember what size the blocks ended up with? I don't have an actual pattern I found this website tutorial
http://www.allthingscrafty.com/2011/...tar-quilt.html and am winging it the rest of the way. Thanks for you help. I know you gals/guys will have lots of good advice. You always do. |

It kind of depends on the look you want. Here is a comparison of the looks with the 8" blocks and the 12" blocks... very close in size.

Like the looks of the 12 inch block.

I prefer the 12" blocks, too! Love the Hunter's Star!

I'm doing a 15" at the moment and love the look of it. Seems a little less busy. The pattern I have also shows for a 25", but after doing a sample, I like the 15". I'm using (6) different reds and (6) different whites.

I like the looks of the 12"

I went to a Jinny Beyer website. She has a pattern for the Hunter's Star with 3 different size templates.

I've made two, the green and blue one is a generous twin, and the white and blue one is double. In both of them, the blocks finished at 7".
Maybe make a couple of sample blocks from scrap fabric? That might help you decide which you like best (and it never hurts to make a practice block). http://www.quiltingboard.com/attachm...d=493815&stc=1 http://www.quiltingboard.com/attachm...d=493817&stc=1 |
I also like the 12" block the best. Love this pattern!
