You can't go wrong with a Log Cabin pattern!! Wish you were close to my area in KY.

I made a sampler quilt for my first one, from Alex Anderson's book. My 2nd one was a rail fence. Very forgiving. Warm Wishes is also good as it looks complex but isn't.

I have only made 1 log cabin block & had issues with squaring it up. I don't suggest LC for a first quilt.

Welcome!!! I am new too and decided to do a DP9 for my first quilt. I just started today and it is going good so far (albeit slow). Just go for, come here for questions (everyone is so wonderful) and the more you make the better you get!!! Have fun and keep us updated with pictures!!!

A rail fence goes together quickly. You can use many different colors to use up scraps and it a great quilt to hit the scrap bin at your LQS to collect your 'colors'. Be sure and post pictures of your finished product.

I, too, am disabled and stuck in the house most of the time. My first quilt was a Baby Chain with great back art.

You don't need a pattern. It's just squares (I'm guessing about 4-5") pieced together in one big piece, then using a square template set slightly askew, then cut.

Are you able to get out of the house once a week for a couple of hours? I started that way with taking quilting classes at a fabric store and then later, at the local quilting shop. Great way to get help and meet other quilters at the same time.

I agree. The disappearing 9-patch is great.
