I did the 1/4 inch stitch with my GD's quilt this summer, and really liked how it made the pattern stand out. I will use it again, anytime, that it will compliment the pattern. SID really is harder than the 1/4 inch stitching. I always use contrasting thread in the top thread.

Thanks everyone! I'm going to try it. Can't go wrong I guess. I'm using a verigated thread in beige and different shades of tans & lt browns. The quilt contains those colors along with some gold and deep red. It's the yellow brick road pattern.

Are you going to be starting and stopping stitching for each unit you are quilting with the 1/4"? That would keep me from wanting to machine quilt this way.

I'm just following the horizontal & vertical lines where I can just stich all the way down or across. It seems to be working out so far.
