Advice needed about selecting a white for a bridal quilt
I am going to do the 'Country Bride' quilt pattern for my granddaughter's bridal shower. It is mostly white that is quilted with center blocks that are white with print lovebirds and hearts appliqued on them. Everything else is white and the side/top/bottom borders are white (16 1/2 x 112 borders on each side of the blocks). So as you can see it is mostly a white quilt.
I was going to do the white part with a tone on tone white...but after looking at some yesterday and thinking about the extensive quilting done, I'm wondering whether that is the way to go. I had previously thought that plain white with no pattern would look too plain. Now I'm confused about what to do. Any thoughts about what you'd select? Here is a link to a picture of the quilt. It isn't showing the wide borders around it (all white) but it will give you an idea of what I'm going to do: http://rummagecompany.ecrater.com/p/...ilt-craft-book TIA, Dray -SE Oklahoma (rural) |
I think a white on white would look very clean and crisp. If you can find a 'pattern' in the white that looks lacy so much the better to go along with the bride.

i think white on white would get lost in all of the quilting, and since the white on white costs more than, let's say, kona white, you would also be saving money.

I would put photos of the bride and groom in the white areas....but thats just me, I like photos on a special quilt.
Its a beautiful pattern! |
I would also use a plain white with that pattern. There's nothing plain about plain white when that lovely quilting is added.

I have that pattern on my to do list. I would use a plain white fabric, it will be beautiful.

I would use a plain white for all the reasons stated above, plus it will have a softer hand than tone-on-tone.

I cast my vote with the plain white crew:thumbup:

I would use white also, but not a bright white. I love Kona's Snow, its a beautiful soft white, I use it alot when I do embroidery or Applique.

Are you hand quilting, because hand quilting is hard to do on the white paint on some of the whites. I know joanns has hearts w on w for valentines day, but the hearts are paint-ish.
If machine quilting, go for a light open white on white. Ive only seen it done in stark white about 20 yrs. Ago. Goood luck |
I agree with the Kona Snow recommendation -- a nice soft white. Some whites are too harshly bright.

I disagree with plain solid white. A white-on-white reflects the light differently and IMHO, adds some interest without being overwhelming. However, that said, whatever you choose will be gorgeous and no one seeing it will know about any other options.
