Advice needed for hand quilting

1 Attachment(s)

I need some advice in what to quilt on this twister table topper. It is for my DIL who quilts and loves hand quilting but does no do it. She is very special so I want it to be something she can cherish. I know she doesn't like it too dense that it distracts from the pattern. Any suggestions you can give me are appreciated. Will try to upload pic.

Stitch in the ditch would make it stand out. Quilt some sort of designs in the borders and the white areas. I think it is beautiful and any way you quilt it would only make it more so.

I cannot give you that advice because I do not hand quilt, however I want to tell you how nice this twister is.

How about just a shadow stitch around the inside of each pinwheel? I machine stitched a twister topper around each pinwheel (in the ditch) and it looked great, but you probably want it to show a bit more with the hand quilting, so I'd suggest just moving in from the seams 1/8-1/4".
Very pretty fabric selections, by the way.

AS a lifelong handquilter I would also quilt a little inside and outside of each piecing seam. It will make the pattern pop. You don't want to do in the ditch with handquilting It would be a total waste of your time . You could do the same in the borders or in the widest one do some kind of simple chain pattern. Good luck the piecing and your colors and fabrics look fantastic.

I agree that the shadow stitch around each pinwheel and moving at least 1/8" from the seam is a good idea. It is exactly what I would do. I do have trouble deciding what to do with borders on projects that have angles. Maybe more pinwheels or diamonds?

Very pretty! I did a kind of curvy line from the center in each twister to create movement.

Beautiful work. I would definitely go along with "mpspeedy2" 's comments. Stitching in the ditch hand sewn is a waste. Good luck and I would love to see it when you finish.

I am so thankful for all of your comments and suggestions. I needed to get some inspiration so I could complete it before Christmas. I love to hand quilt at night while DH watches/sleeps in front of the tv. I used Moda's Winter in the Woods charm pack and some extra yardage. Worked on this at a quilt retreat up on Lake Superior while with my DIL. Thank you for you compliments. Sharon
