Hi we will be visiting Colorado this summer so I thought that I ought to seek some advice about good quitling places to visit! We are travelling from S. Colorado up to Denver, then probably to Vail, onto Grand Junction, then back to my family before returning to the Uk.

Vail is BEAUTIFUL and not to be missed. Our
DD lives in Denver and makes regular trips to
Vail. We visited last August and it is lovely,
feels like you are in a Switzerland village---lots
of flowers, little shops, (No, I didn't see any
fabric stores......) On Friday afternoons, they
offer free gondola rides to the top of the
"mountain" where there are views and it
is party time all evening!

Are you familiar with Harriet Hargrave? She has a shop near Denver. I have no idea what the store is like, but I would love to take a class from her. I have benefited from her books.

Don't miss Great American Quilt Factory on Hampden and Yosemite, Harriet's Treadle Arts on 44th between Wadsworth and Sheridan, The Creative Needle on Broadway & West Ridge Road (just south of Arapahoe right near Joann's), Holly's Quilt Cabin on Holly and County Line, High Prairie Quilts in Parker ... there are a bunch more that are not near me that are great too! Support your local quilt shop!

If you happen to be in town on the third Monday of the month you could catch a meeting of Front Range Contemporary Quilters or if you're here on the 2nd Thursday of the month, Arapahoe County Quilters. I'm sure there are a bunch of other guilds but I don't know all the schedules.

Also, if you go out to Golden on your way up I-70, stop at CK Media - they always have an awsome (and free) exhibit. Also, take in the Quilt Museum in Golden. They have excellent exhibits (oh and they are also across the street from a quilt shop). And, of course, we have a world class art museum in Denver.

Oh, also on your way up I-70 there is an AWESOME bead shop in Idaho Springs.

Thank you all for your advice! My husband & I are trying to plan out a route at the moment, so your info will really help. We will be going to Golden anyway because there is a steam railway museum there and we are also planning to go to Durango. (Guess who chose that one!) Rob's sister now lives in Co after years in Texas. We live in the UK now, but return to the US asap.

I recently saw an ad on tv for a new search engine. it's called dexknows.com and is supose to be easier to use. what you search for is more specific so you get better results. I haven't had the need to use the it yet. (Am no way associated with the company)

Hi Teacher, I live in Denver so if you tell me what type of fabric interests you the most I can give you an idea of which shops would fit. There are a bunch of shops here and fairly close, but you would have to plan a whole day (darn) to see them all, and that would not be staying very long in each. In addition to the shops you've already been told about on the south end of Denver is Fabric Expressions; a lot of traditional, Holly's; a lot of batiks and just real nice stuff. Wild Heathers; fabric artist & lot of embelishment. Creatove Needle; lot of batiks; can always find something to coordinate there with your own stuff....I could go on and on. Let me know if you want more info &/or addresses.

That's really kind of you! I like the more traditional fabrics. I also really like the Kona bay fabrics with the Japanese influence. My latest quilt was made using a selection of those that I got when I was back in the US. I will post a pictu :lol: re when I work out how to do it! I also thought that I would look at the typically Southwestern colours as I think that turquoise color is lovely. We will be around for a month total this time so I will be able to visit quite a few places. Any that I dont get to this trip I can store up for next time cant I?
