advice please
The Thrift Shop does not want my home made , 100% cotton (quilt fabric) blouses. I want to cut them up into useable sizes, 2 and 5 inch squares. Should I cut them with the straight of grain or does it even matter on these small pieces?

I would cut them on the straight. Otherwise you may have trouble getting them to behave.

i agree..................

Sorry that Thrift shops can be odd at times. have fun making more out of them.

I prefer straight of grain.
I will qualify that - I like the grain lines to run perpendicular to the sides of the block. Some people say it does not matter. |
thank you all for responding! I just got off the phone with a girl friend, she has offered to try to sell them at her garage sale! Yea! Maybe I'll make a few $ and cut up the ones that don't sell!
Straight of gain it is, thanks again, Cecelia |

I don't know how much money you'll get from selling them in a garage sale, in CA, I don't even bother with having clothes in a yard sale, can't even get .25 for them, so I either donate to our local Humane Society thrift store, or cut them up for quilts. Good luck either way.

I have some cutting up to do(larger size shirts) and I am going to cut some of the larger sections into strips and the smaller pieces into squares. Thought it was time to do something a little different and see what happens.

Cecelia...just my 2 cents here. I have cut many cotton garments and find that 5 inch squares and 2 1/2 inch squares (not 2 inch as you mentioned) seem to be very convenient sizes to use in projects. (Don't know if you are a long time quilter, but remember you will lose 1/2 inch from each square of fabric when sewn into a quilt block). As I said...just my 2 cents...:)
