Advice for quilting
I made a tumbler (3") for my nieces brand new baby. I normally send my quilts out for quilting, but this is so little I just want to do it. Straight lines only, is all I can do at the moment, and I'm not even very good at those. Lol SID seems like a lot but doing diagonal straight lines across the whole thing doesn't seem like it would look good.
Ideas would be welcome and appreciated. |
I just Googled "tumbler quilt images" and came up with this - 1/4" away from all the seam lines.

Oh I really like that!! What would the "path" be? One tumbler at a time? Or straight across row by row, then staggard down, row by row?
|
I'm lazy ;-) so I wouldn't do one tumbler at a time. I'd stitch it as continuous lines, the straight lines would be a snap, and the other edges you'd have to zig-zag but they shouldn't be too hard either. Just stay on one side of a seam line until you get all the way across the top, then you can do the other side of the seam line.

yep, go across one line of tumblers to the other side, again on next "row" and so on. then from top to bottom also. should look great!!

i have started using my decorative stitches for things like this. just a wavy line. still straight rows sewing but makes a nice look.

Should I still use the walking foot?

I would use the walking foot. Getting coordination down for FMQ takes practice

That is really cute! I plan to make a tumbler quilt too so I'll have to remember that!

I would do straight lines across, but vary the width. Do some a 1/4 in apart and others an inch. Maybe use a zig-zag stitch for it too!
