advice re fusing fabric
 

I have several letters I need to fuse to fabric, then applique. Is there a reason I can't trace my (reversed) letters onto the steam a seam, then remove the backing and fuse the entire piece to my fabric, then cut out the individual letters? It seems like it should work as I am using a plain solid fabric. No need to fussy cut etc. Or do I have to trace the letters, cut them out, fuse, and then cut them out again?
Thoughts please????

Nope, that's exactly how I do it!

That's the best way to do it...much cleaner edges with much less chance of fraying that way.

I use steam-a-seam 2 a lot and pretty much do as you do......except I eliminate the tracing on the steam-a-seam by fusing appropriately sized piece of steam-a-seam to reverse side of fabric and then pinning applique piece (in your case letter) to font of fabric and cutting out. This gives the same clean edges without having to trace everything.

Thanks for confirming what I hoped was an appropriate way to proceed. Didn't get much done today, one of those days I couldn't get started and when I finally got myself propelled to try, whatever I touched went wrong! Tomorrow will be better, i have too much to do to have any other outcome!! (That's my attempt at positive thinking!)
