I wonder (as I procrastinate here online with my quilting friends - Hahaha) if anyone has trouble getting going on a project?
I have a single bed quilt that I'm trying to copy (from a store-bought one) and cannot get going. Is it because I don't want to "design" the copy? or that I don't want to cut into the fabric that I have bought? I can't put my finger on it... why am I so bothered by this????? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance! |
When this happens to me it is usually because I am not truly taken with the pattern. Sit back; take a deep breath; look through your patterns and now GO (smile).

ya if you really loved it you would have started by now-keep looking

For me? sometimes it is just a total lack of motivation in general LOL I have to kick start myself to get going, then it is full steam ahead :D:D:D

Happens to me all the time. An unfortunate combination of procrastination, lack of motivation, and no confidence. (fear of making 'a mistake')

I started a quilt top for my son soon to be 9 yr old, he started nagging me and now I lost my gusto to finish it.

When I'm resisting starting (or continuing) a creative project, it usually means I need to let it sit for a bit because there's an idea for a change simmering.
Might just be me. :D |
I've 1/2-way completed cutting & piecing blocks for a quilt I'm making for my mom (only 100 more to go). I have to Insist to myself to keep working on it. I think it's because I'm not pleased with the color scheme I've chosen. I keep having 2nd thoughts: "It's not too late to change your mind..."
|
For me it's usually that I'm either not sold on the pattern I've chosen or I'm questioning one or more of the colors I've picked. I hate to cut fabric for one project and then change my mind because I'm afraid I'll have all this cut fabric and I'll never find another use for it!!! We can be so hard on ourselves for the smallest things.

I have to agree with the hidden doubts about the project theories. Because when I am in love with a project, I can't stop thinking about it and planning it, and can't wait to get started on it.
When the pattern, fabric, and colors are right, I'll bet you'll be ready to get going. |

If you are not sure if it is the pattern or the fabric, I'd suggest to lay out the pieces of fabric and leave them out for a while. As you walk by the stash check your feelings when you see the fabrics. Look at them in different lights. See if one of them jumps out at you (in a good or a bad way). That is how I audition my stash.
If you decide that you like the fabric, then see if you can tie the fabrics to the pattern and lay them out in a way to compare to the sizes in the pattern - then repeat the exercise. |
Thank you all, fellow quilters... the chocolate helped but only temporarily... still need that kick in the A--. Laying them out to peruse is slowly helping... THANK YOU all!

I agree with the others that it is something about the pattern or fabric that has me .... taking my sweet ... time to get going or even stay with it once I have it started.
