I've been working on my cheaters quilt for my mom. I've got it all stitched together but I've got to much fabric on the backside now and it fit before . What have I done wrong? It's about 4" to wide, I an pick the backing up and fold it over . Help!!

Can't you trim the backing to fit the quilt top? Have you finished the quilting?
|
I haven't started quilting it yet, the extra fabric is length wise. I don't know hat I did wrong because it did fit perfectly until I stitched it together.
|
you want that extra if you haven't quilted yet. Maybe you were allowing for that when it was cut, and then you stitched it together and didn't let that extra hang over the edge.

When you make a quilt sandwich you need to have the batting and backing larger on all 4 side than the top.
When you quilt the quilting usually makes the top shrink some and you trim the batting and back after you finish all of the quilting. |
One fabric must have stretched as you sewed it . Does it lay flat at this point? If yes, then you can trim the bottom after you quilt it. Not seeing it it's hard to know what happened. Take a picture and we can help you better.

I think I know what I did wrong. Thank you for the help. But I'm going to leave it alone for today or I'll mess it up more. LOL
