Lord willing (& our daughtet is out of the hospital) hubby and I are going to take a 25th wedding anniversary trip to Alaska this year.
I'd like to know what quilt shops are there at the ports(Juneau., Ketchikan,Skagway & one more i can't rememebr) and which ones we just 'have to ' go to. If anyone know please let me know. Thanks. |
have fun in Alaska, I would suggest googling for shops in Alaska and sending them email to be sure they are still open or call them
|
There is a nice one in Sitka.
|
Rushin' Tailor's Quilt Alaska in Skagway. Address is 370 Third Ave. It's easily accessible from the cruise ship port. The fourth port is Prince Rupert, B.C. on the way back to Seattle. I assume you are taking a cruise ship.

I know at least one of the members on here is from Alaska. When she sees your post you are sure to get the info you need.

There is a " Ben Franklin" in tourist city of Juneau, AK.... with on walking distance of the cruise ship port...
|
Alaskasunshine is one of the members who lives there. I know of one more but my mind has gone blank. Have fun on your trip.

If you are coming as far as Anchorage there are a couple of great ones here in town. Let me know and I will send you their info.

ANy ideas for those areas? Thanks, |
The store in Sitka is called Abby's Reflection. It's a combo clothing store and quilt shop. The towns in SE Alaska are small and isolated and likely the "must-go-to" quilt shop will be the only store in town that sells fabric - some actual quilt shops and others part quilt shop/part other merchandise.
I grew up in Sitka and IMO, SE Alaska is an amazingly beautiful part of this world and I hope you get to go! Enjoy!! |
Yes, I too, recommend the Sitka quilt shop. Very friendly service and beautiful fabrics. Buy all you need of the Alaska theme fabrics because they are hard to find. I learned the hard way. Have a wonderful trip.

There are lots up there that I've been to online but not in person. You'll have to update us on which ones you go to. Have a fun trip. I love Alaska. Unfortunetely
last time I was there I didn't know what a sewing machine was. |
Have fun!

Sew cornie, I'm in Big Lake. Very tiny community north of Anchorage.
|
I grew up in Kodiak, then Sitka. Since you had all the references for the SE quilt shops, I thought you may have been a Southerner. :-D
|
I lived in Juneau for a while. It's beautiful country down there for sure.
|
Sew, Where are you in Oregon? I grew up in Sweet Home.

(Sorry to have hijacked your thread LAQUITA! ) |
I'm glad for all this info. My hubby and I just signed up for an Alaska cruise. We'll be on Princess and taking the Denali extension and ending up with a day in Fairbanks. It would be nice to do visits to some of the shops.
|
Loved the Rushin Tailor!

I wonder if my sister-in-law would still like to buy me a ticket? Haven't been to Anchorage in 20 years but I know there is a big quilting community there.
|
I just did that cruise in May with a quilter friend! I missed the Juneau shop, Changing Tides, because I was gone on an excursion the whole time we were in port. My friend said it was nice. We really liked the shops in Ketchikan & Skagway. We found a nice shop at Pike Place Market in Seattle too. It is in the section near a brewery & a chocolate store.
Happy Anniversary! Have a wonderful time! It's a great cruise, wish I could go again this month! |
What cruise line are you traveling on?
