Not quite sure what a DH is exactly as I am not quite into text/ blog speak yet. Could be Doting Husband. My husband Phil says it may be Dopey Husband. Do tell!!! Will reveal all ( well not quite all) after Christmas! This is such fun!!!

echoemb 12-21-2010 04:26 PM

I have a 440 and LOVE it. It puts the enjoyment back into sewing. Have fun learning about all of the wonderful things it does.

Kikiatl 12-21-2010 04:31 PM

Love the little dog. He looks like a lamb!

DH is generally taken to mean dear/darling husband....course if you were a little peeved with him I suppose it could take on a totally different meaning! 8-)

have fun!

 That might actually be fun!

echoemb 12-21-2010 04:52 PM

Thanks, that was when he was a lamb. He is affectionately called "Mr. Make Me". Has been a real handful but he is finely getting it. His name is Dally and was turned into a kill shelter for biting at the age of 5 weeks. Really mean dog at 5 weeks - NOT. I run a dog rescue and when I saw his picture I had to get him. Didn't need another dog when I got him and he was just too cute so I kept him.

penski 12-21-2010 05:52 PM

cant help you with the question but congrats on the Christmas Present

kwiltkrazy 12-21-2010 07:20 PM

Can't help you there. I just wanted to say congrats on the perfect X-mas pressie, and have fun when they finally let you play with it.

kwiltkrazy 12-21-2010 07:21 PM

Sorry I double posted

I bought my cabinet for my Bernina from Ken's Sew N Vac (I think that is the name) in Muscle Shoals, AL and it came all assembled except for the casters. They have a great website and lots of choices. I am so happy for your new addition!!

fleurdelisquilts.com 12-21-2010 08:54 PM

Love, love, love my Bernie. Also the 440QE! Do all my sewing on that machine. Enjoy!

(I'd sneak it out of the box and sew while DH snores--but that's just me.)

Dee 12-21-2010 09:15 PM

So happy for you and your new baby. Happy quilting!

Tsanchez 12-21-2010 09:53 PM

I'm so jealous. I would to have a new machine and even a new cabinet. Right now my sewing consists of a 3 x 4 x 4 foot folding table, A bench for my seat and another folding table set up for my cutting and ironing table. Worse of all, they are all set up in my den instead of my very small, very full craft room. I really need to invest in one of those building that have electricity ran to it. Yeah right, not in my lifetime. Congrads on your newbies.

VernaL 12-21-2010 11:01 PM

I have the 440QE too. This fall, I bought a Horn cabinet from my local dealer. I got a great deal on it and got a new chair too. It is so well made and I just love the cabinet. I have a small room, but now I can really do my own quilting. There is a lot of room for supporting quilts while sewing.

My DH is sleeping between me and my Benina with a tripwire attached. Maybe I could do that Catherine Zeta Jones thing at the Museum when she slithers between the rays to get to the prize!!!

Kikiatl 12-22-2010 06:25 AM

Is he an Australian cattle dog? Love him. Yes, definitely at his MOST ferocious at five weeks!!!

stormatsea45 12-22-2010 09:42 AM

You will be thrilled with your new dream machine. I know nothing about the cabinet, but do hope you have an extention on the back that can lift up for working with larger quilts, etc. Enjoy and feel very loved. :-D

Tsanchez 12-22-2010 10:30 AM

I've been looking at either the Horn or the Kangaroo cabinets. I just love the way they are set up. I will just have to save up for one. I'm really happy for you. I've got a higher end embroidery machine on layaway right now. Well, at least higher end than what I have now. It's going to take me awhile to get it paid for but I can't wait.

alleyoop1 12-22-2010 02:01 PM

Have a Bernina 440QE - love it. Hope you have a great time with yours.

Kikiatl 12-22-2010 02:30 PM

Some of these quilt pics look amazing! I am a complete beginner but keen to make a tiny cot quilt for my neighbour. Looking at fabric and filling etc that is good for appliqué and washing purposes . Not doing piece quilt

Oooooo! I would love to see that!

Hang in there, Christmas is coming....does your DH realize that once your new Bernina is opened, you will not be seen the rest of the day? 8-)

Thanks, we rescued Hero 4 years ago...he is very spoiled.

I don't remember ever seeing the book you mentioned. Is it whole cloth quilts?

It's called "Art Cloth" I think I will have to buy it. Cheaper at amazon. Looks amazing, but I think her first book was called "Cloth"

Looks very interesting. I think it will be a while until I am confident enough in my quilting to make a whole cloth quilt that the whole beauty would depend on the quilting design. But I can always dream! ;)

Kikiatl 12-22-2010 06:57 PM

I paint in acrylics, mainly abstract designs so I think for me trying to make a small appliqué wall hanging or mini quilt from my own design would be what I would like to do! The colours and shapes in the composition would be what interested me. I could not the repetetive traditional type quilt, but have seen many beautiful quilts already from contributors on this blog!

nursie76 12-22-2010 07:06 PM

You should be a natural then with art quilts! I struggle with color!

Kikiatl 12-22-2010 07:17 PM

Art quilts. Is that what they are called. See all this is so new and exciting fir me. Have loved fabric and colour all my life and now have the opportunity to do something more with it!!!! Yey, so, so exciting!

nursie76 12-22-2010 07:18 PM

How exciting....just think, not too much longer before you can open your new machine and the adventure can begin.

Kikiatl 12-22-2010 07:36 PM

I am getting more excited by the day. The cabinet I thought of buying from arrow for $299, suddenly went up overnight to $365 on all the websites. I think I will leave that for a while and use my sturdy fold up table. I did buy a more comfortable chair from officedepot today. Not a fancy one, but an upright chair with a better back support than the fold-up one I have.

Sounds like a good idea to start with the chair, DH brought an office chair home that they gave away where he works, and it has made all the difference in the world to how my back feels after a sewing marathon. 8-)

Kikiatl 12-22-2010 08:04 PM

I do get back trouble with chairs with bad support so had been looking fir a while. Some of them make you slouch and I need to sit upright. This one felt just right. I will try tomorrow to post pics of my dogs. I am using my iPhone but maybe on my laptop I can do it. Can see things better anyway. Just need a little read of my " Grapes of Wrath" now before turning in. Dogs already asleep. Dh away overnight. Inthink the new dog missed him. She didn't race upstairs as usual . I think she expected him to come home!
