Almost done with DD's quilt. Opinion please...

So far the quilt has been echo quilted with straight lines. Now for the wide red border I'm wondering if deviating from that and doing a melon seed design would be alright? I like the look but don't know about changing the design at this point.

Thanks for looking! Enjoy!

I think the melon seed quilting in the border will look great!

QuiltnNan 07-29-2015 12:15 PM

i agree with Prism

Since the pattern is 1/4 inch stitched, it is almost like SITD so I think any other pattern will look great. Pretty quilt!

Most beautiful quilts have many quilting designs in them. I love the quilt and do think the border quilting would be wonderful! It's nice to get away from all of the angles...the melon seed adds interest and balance to the quilt.

Beautiful quilt!!

How about sort of marrying the melon seed and echoing. Do a second line on the inside of each melon seed line spaced however you spaced the echo on the straight pieces.

Thank you all so very much!!

Very beautiful quilt!! I think the melon seeds look fantastic!!

I love your quilt. Someday I hope to get around to that pattern. I think doing the melon seeds in the border is a great idea.

ManiacQuilter2 07-30-2015 04:50 AM

I agree. The border stencil that one uses doesn't always match the quilting in the quilt.

nena 07-30-2015 05:27 AM

I think it would look great. Love the quilt!

I agree with Prism and Nan

You have done a good job; your quilt is great!

fmhall2 07-31-2015 07:30 AM

I've always been taught that you need both straight and curved piecing and quilting, so if that's true, you are right on. Very nice quilt.

I like your idea for the melon seed. It goes with the pattern of the fabric

Latrinka 07-31-2015 08:52 AM

I agree with the others, it looks great. You already have the echo quilting in that first border, so I think the melon seed quilting in that last border kind of ends it on a softer note. And I agree with Jeanie, it seems to match the pattern in that fabric also!

greaterexp 07-31-2015 09:24 AM

It's so stunning, I'm not sure it will matter what you do in the borders! I like the melon seed idea.

granny64 07-31-2015 01:23 PM

I love it! Red is my favorite color.

MargeD 07-31-2015 03:46 PM

I agree that the melon seed border would look great. Great quilt by the way.

Echo the melon seed for a cable design. I love cables as border designs.

ctrysass2012 07-31-2015 07:02 PM

Lovely quilt Kitsie! I just finished a smaller one & need to quilt it. Would you share what you did with the center? Thank you

cathyvv 07-31-2015 08:43 PM

That's a gorgeous quilt! Use the melon pattern. It adds interest and frames the quilt, too.

maryellen2u 07-31-2015 10:36 PM

It is a lovely quilt! How can you go wrong with red and white!? I think whatever you do will only enhance the quilt further.

mjhaess 08-04-2015 05:20 AM

Looks great...

nativetexan 08-04-2015 08:58 AM

oh I like it. if you want it to fill the border more you can always go back 1/4 inch on either side of it. cable design I believe.
