Already Cut Triangles

I have a big pile of cut triangles & wanted to ask your opinion. Is it still ok to sew them together to make pinwheel blocks? I have no pattern but thought I could square up after I make my squares.

Sure, handle them gently as to not stretch the bias and square them up when sewn. The recut patterns from MSQC (Dissappearing Hourglass) had bias edges and I had no trouble doing a quilt with them and quilting it.

I agree with Tartan. They'll want to stretch, but, hey....square up after you're done and let them fly :)

I've used leftover triangles (folded) to make prairie points, too, so there's always a way to use them, Sue :)

Broken dishes is another fun use for hst. As Tartan says, handle gently.

Just made a pillow with leftover 60° triangles. Starch will help. Be gentle and don't stretch them while you sew and press. While sewing them into strips, I learned to add them one at a time, not to put 2 together then sew those. It was easier to match them up as singles.

I saw a tip that said to match up the opposite points away from the bias edges...not the bias edges..to get a better block.

Absolutely. When I make flying geese, I end up with the little triangles that get trimmed off. They end up in a different project. That's too much fabric to waste.

Since I either spray starch of Best Press before cutting my materials,it is easy to do HST's and more with leftover pieces. Example: in a BOM group I belong to each block has FG on borders, so I now mark the cutting line and sew onboth sides of that. I end up with the original wanted FG and extras to do something scrappy.
