I read of Alzheimers study using lap quilts. I read about it in aarp bulletin in september. Does anyone know anything about this study? I would like to contribute to help alzheimers patients since my dad was one.

I don't know anything about the study, but would be interested in it as I lost my father to that dreadful disease a year ago. I will watch this post.

I just searched and found your info for you

http://www.aarp.org/giving-back/char...olunteers.html

The Alzheimer’s Disease Cooperative Study is distributing quilts to volunteers participating in research studies to find a cure. Funded by the National Institute on Aging, ADCS coordinates clinical trials at about 70 sites nationwide. Over 3,000 people participate in the studies and receive treatment with experimental drugs.

The Alzheimer’s Study Quilt Project aims to express appreciation to the volunteers, all of whom have mild to moderate cognitive impairment. “What do any of us do when we don’t feel well?” asks ADCS communications specialist Jeffree Itrich. “You curl up with a quilt, because it soothes the body and the soul.”

The project seeks lap-size quilts, rectangular or square, between 40 and 60 inches per side. For information, e-mail [email protected] or call 858-677-1565.

Thanks I will give them a call. I was hoping someone had already had some contact with them but I will. I tried to get my quilt group interested but no responce. It was so hard to see my dad go from a intelligent man to someone who didnt know me alot of the time.
