I have a huge pile of various patterns I have acquired. Some are ones I made once and know I won't make again. Others are ones I know I will never make but I got them free through a shop hop or BOM or something. So am I allowed to get rid of those?? They're originals, not copies. I just feel like I'm going to break a quilting law or commandment - thou shalt not get rid of patterns... so I need some reassurance that it is okay! Lol.

Happy Thanksgiving :)

I dont see why not.

Many times when you get something FREE, it will state not for resale. If it was a BOM, that could be different. There are so many opinions because of copyright laws, but I have given a few things away. The only problem I can see is if you charge for free patterns.

LOL I gave 2 boxes full to our woman's shelter store to sell. I figured it was a good way to share the love!!

Yeah, I wouldn't want to sell them. They're a single piece of printed paper, seems a little silly to sell. At my LQS, there's an area where people bring in stuff they don't want and other people can take it, so my patterns would go there

if you belong to a guild then take them there and put on a free table or if they have a sale table, let them sell them

Scissor Queen 11-25-2010 08:13 AM

Of course you can sell them. Even the free ones.

Candace 11-25-2010 08:18 AM

You all are over thinking this way too much. If they're original patterns, of course you can resell them. That's what our classified section is for.

Sure, you payed 4 them its your call! 8-)

I've been getting rid of some of my patterns. sold some and some i just included with purchase as an extra! i have so many, i know i'm not going to make them all. not in a million yrs!

Sometimes I think we make our lives too complicated because we (ME) think we must keep everything we ever got, from free patterns or magazines to the family dimestore heirlooms that nobody else wants(I have a whole chest full of these). I am trying to break this habit so I can have more room for the things I realy want, like more fabric!

So, share the wealth any way you want and don't feel any guilt at all

I have wondered about selling also. does anyone really know the copyright laws on this ? we are a big board, read by a huge amount of people, would hate to see someone get in trouble---although it would probably only be a "stop, please".
sometimes I see patterns put up here that I wonder about also. I don't think someones's pattern can be sent out unless it is from a site that says it is OK. If it is from a pattern we purchase, I don't think it is OK.
We have a member of our Guild that is right on top of that stuff because she markets patterns. if I can catch her before her AZ trip, I will ask.
I imagine this has come up before. guess I should check the archives before I open my mouth. today I will fill it with pumpkin pie !! Happy Thanksgiving !!

It's OK to 'Let Go' and move on.

Hey Lucyinthesky,
I am also in Tucson but would like to know which LQS has the freebie used patterns. I also have many patterns I have accumulated over the years that I would like to give away. And of course there might be some patterns I might want to try........LOL

texas granny 11-25-2010 07:54 PM

Your not reprinting them and selling them. The ones you got for free you can give them away as free. the ones you bought you can sell for less or for what you paid for it. you just can't raise the cost of reprintg all of the patterns and sell the copies.
