Am I getting my Sew-Jo Back?

I made a block today. Yes...just one.
First thing I've done since my husband dropped the bomb in November. I just haven't been able to start or even plan anything. No interest at all, even with this lovely new sewing studio.

I happened across a MSQ Triple Play today on half rectangles and one of them caught my eye so I pulled out some fabric and made up a block. It was kind of nice. We will see if I feel like making more tomorrow.
At least it's a start.

Watson

Good for you! Your energy has been directed elsewhere since November and your renewed interest in quilting is a sure sign of the beginning of your healing process. You got this!!! And for sure you have many more beautiful quilts in your furture.

My dear Watson, I had to go back and read other posts to find out what happened. I do read here periodically, not much on the replies though. I've had a few setbacks the last 2 or 3 years, so haven't been able to respond much. However, I did want to give you my love, and encouragement. I believe you are a very strong person, and your decisions are carefully made. I've always enjoyed reading your posts and marveled at your talents. I'm wishing you the best life has to offer and that you'll continue to find the strength you need. You will always be someone others will look up to and be inspired by you. Thank you for making this world a better place.

I think your mojo has always been there. It's just taking its time and absorbing all of your emotions. When it totally re-emerges (erupts) in its entirety, I believe you will take another huge artistic step. Really looking forward to seeing the result. Hugs

You go girl! We're all rooting for you and anxious to see your artistry again.

Good for you! One block at a time!

QuiltMom2 03-04-2023 04:43 AM

Thank heaven! I've so enjoyed your posts over the years and I'm hoping you'll have even better quilts (if possible!) to share.

Watson, you are your way back to something that you are so very good at--making quilts. Add me to the list of 'cheerleaders' from the board. Don't forget to post pics for us to enjoy.

QuiltBaer 03-04-2023 05:38 AM

Good for you! Whose block did you like the best? I usually like Natalie's quilt the most.

That's a great start! I went thru a life trauma about 10 years back. I didn't sew for months. I used to go and just sit in my sewing room and watch TV, but really didn't have any interest in sewing at all. I finally did a bit of organizing and after a while I started sewing again. Give yourself time to heal and it will come back.

Excellent, you go girl! and although it's hard to tell today, spring is around the corner and then everything will become brighter :)

Glad to hear it Watson. It may come and go for a while as you work your way through all this. In the meantime, here's more virtual hugs (((((((((((((((()))))))))))))))

That's great to hear, Watson.
About 10 years ago and I had really bad depression (clinical) and didn't sew for 2 years! Looking back it's hard to believe but I felt so lousy that sewing was the last things on my mind. When it came back I knew I was on the mend.
HUGS to you.

Peckish 03-04-2023 09:46 AM

Yay!!! So happy to hear it!

My friend Cindi lives 2 time zones away from me. We text a LOT. I have a tendency to browse quilting blogs, Pinterest, IG, and shops in the evenings while watching tv with my husband. I'll screencap pictures of quilts, techniques, show winners, etc and send them to her. She recently told me she loves it when I do this because it motivates her and pulls her into her quilting mojo. That made me feel pretty good. 🥰

I'm not sure how far away from your previous life you've moved. Maybe there's a new-to-you guild you can join? Make some new friends, take a class, go on a retreat.

I'm very happy for you!! Baby steps . . . .

Julienm1 03-04-2023 01:24 PM

Sounds like your mo-jo has started to wink at you. Pretty soon you will be browsing yur books/patterns, finding that "just right fabric", and sewing up a storm. I tihink Pintrest is the best idea for quilters since the rotary cutter. All those ideas just waiting to pin for later. Have fun.

Glad your sew-Jo is coming back. If you have a fair or competition coming up this year, that may give you an incentive also for working on a new project.

Watson, you've been through a trauma and rightly needed to focus all your energy on healing. Your new block is evidence that you are making progress in your healing journey. It may be slow but it will be steady. So glad that you have a reminder that your life will be full of things that bring you pleasure as you move forward. ((Hugs))

Glad to know. It is a normal thing in a time of abnormal. One step at a time!!!!

Watson, so glad it’s coming back, it takes time but it will come. And if you’ve got a quilting friend, have her do exactly what Peggi did. She helped me through two no-mo-sew-jo moments, and without her texting me nearly every.single.day with at least one quilt picture a day I’d have never made it through those hard times of wondering if I’d ever go to my sewing room again. We are total opposites in nearly everything, especially quilting. But she’d send quilt pics of things I liked and always asked what fabric I’d use for the pattern, what type of quilting I’d do, or point out that I had a specific fabric that would be perfect for it. Or pics of quilts she was making, asking for advice (even though I’m sure she didn’t need it!). She got me thinking about quilting, saving pics, running down to my sewing room to look at “that” fabric. Even looking forward to those texts each morning. Every.single.day until my sew-jo came back again. She was my sewing savior, for sure, and it meant so much.

Great news! So glad your interest is starting to return. As everyone here has said, we're here for you, rooting for you, and waiting to see your next project....

I'm so sorry you got bombed, but I hope you will heal and build back, better if possible. I, too, remember your lovely pictures from the past. Do you have any of them to look at and admire? It seems you have a rally squad here. Count me in too.
