I am marking my quilt top ( lap size ) using a chalk pencil and plastic stencil ...... after 1 hour and only done with the top border, HERE I AM ....wishing this process was faster , knowing I am going to hand baste next , which will probably take awhile too......

How long does it take you to mark your top ?!!

I bastefirst. The chalk marks will rub off while you baste

Maybe a little bit of both. It takes me forever to mark things and I also want to get the quilt done.

Depends on the intracy of the stencil. I also use a #2 mechanical pencil. I find it far easier than chalk and the lines stay on while I'm quilting and wash out beautifully when I'm done.

Trace the stencil on to easy-tear paper on tracing paper. Sew through paper.

You might want to quilt some that you have done. The chalk may wear off before you get it all quilted.

I don't like chalk, to dusty, and to short on staying around waiting for me.

Good idea. Also, that way you'll get a break from marking and can get down to quilting.
