More on Goodwill -- I buy 100 percent wool sweaters and machine wash them to shrink and felt them. Then I cut them apart to make mittens and batting for potholders. I also buy loads of plaid flannel shirts and cut them apart for the fabric. Got a flannel/denim quilt in mind...

I am so excited to see all these postings. I thought I was a rare one.I find that many thrifts carry donated cotton fabric, some with the fabric store prices still on them.
I do cut up all the clothes that I get cheap and now I am asking my friends who have great taste in clothes to recycle in my direction please. This is an adventure making old into new again. Lot's of fun! Christina (chrissy) |
I stay away from Goodwill....I like the church thrifts and local charities thrifts. Our Good will has prices as high as high priced shops that I refuse to shop in.
Frugal is a good thing, the better the price the more I can make to share . christina ( chrissy) |
You just gave me an idea where to hide my fabric. Under the bed. When My sewing room flooded this spring my husband asked When did you buy all of this!

I haven't seen any bag sales at thrift stores here either.
he good will is not cheap anymore! as for the other thrift stores in my area, I just ask why not add a few more dollars and get something like it at a regular store? I do like shopping at thrift stores don't get me wrong! can find bargains there still. the yard sales can find a lot of stuff.... |
I go to Goodwill on Wed. here because its Senior day and I can get 30% off each item.I have been looking for sheets and cotton curtains for backing as well as large men's and women's cotton shirts for pinwheel fabric.Goodwill has become somewhat expensive these days but when I can save money on wednesdays it really benefits me!I also found that nurses scrubs are sold in bold prints now so I buy those too..I love this website so much and sharing with all of you...

I agree with the prices at the Goodwill stores in our area--they have really gone up the last couple of years. I think it's because of the economy and the word got out about the thrift stores, etc. Too bad for those of us who shopped there for years. Garage and yard sales still have the best prices but not as big a selection.
