Interesting! And we worry about a seam or point not being perfect! I would use white cotton thread, not mono, and a baptist fan design would be good too.....if you are L/A there is a panto for one that is good!

When you said you were asked to restore it - what are the expectations of the askers? Does it have holes in it?
Do they "just" want it finisbed?

That is a good example of seeing the design first - galloping horse style - and enjlying the overall look.

But it drive me insaner to work on it.

Please consider 'Baptist' (or 'Methodist') Fans quilting. Very period and forgiving.

Totally agree! It looks like Christmas mints. I would go circular.

Fortunate that there are no holes. She said it needed restoring but it only really needs finishing. However, some of the seams came apart and had to be secured. I used cotton thread as the quilter used. Did a good cleaning but working on a blood stain from her having a needle prick. I do want to see the quilt design first then the quilting. Yes, deciding on the quilting is driving me insane, LOL.

Cross and other specific motifs would be a problem for me due to the irregularity of the piecing. Baptist fan would be my choice. I would get large piece or pieces of clear plastic and with marker draw the fan motif and lay it over the top and see how it looks.
the Baptist, Methodist, or bishops fan would probably create a uniform layer to the irregularity of the piecing.

I think white thread and the Baptist fan would look very nice on the quilt.

I wouldn't do SID either but sorry I'm not much help on what might look the best.

I like the idea of Baptist Fan the best so far.

Thanks for posting this. I never knew the name of the pattern. I had a top that my aunt made a zillion years ago. It was rescued from the Superstorm Sandy flood and kindly quilted for me by a member of QB. She used a simple cross hatch diamond pattern that worked well.
