Am I using the wrong needle?

New project, new needle in my LA but it's snagging the quilt top and pulling the thread? Worst of all its printed black material so it shows. Fixes? I'm thinking of going back to a top stitch needle.

Maybe you just have a bad needle?

Sounds almost like a defective needle, like there might be a burr on it or something. I'd try a different needle.

A new needle shouldn't pull threads. Try another one and if it does the same, switch back to a top stitch needle.

That's what I did. Put the old needle back in. Works fine now. But this has happened occasionally on both the LA and my domestic. I once read that a ball point needle designed for knits also solves the problem.
