I know this isn't strictly about quilting but I AM using my fat quarters!! I am making doll clothing for my niece and I won't get to see the doll anytime soon and I want to get working on many more outfits!
Does anyone have an American Girl Doll that they could measure for me? Waist? Height? 18"? Leg length? Head circumference? Arm length from shoulder to wrist just above hand? Torso length? Here's the first outfit I made: Blouse and Jumper for American Girl Doll |
Lori--I wish I had a doll I could measure for you, but I just had to say--that jumper and blouse is absolutely adorable!!! Your niece is one lucky girl!!

I just did a google search and found tons of hits. here is one from a knitting blog that may help. http://www.knittinghelp.com/forum/ar...p/t-64484.html
I was shocked to see the prices for patterns! found one site that wanted $8.95 for just one outfit! |
I found a site of discontinued American Girl Patterns and downloaded a bunch, so I am happy to not have to buy the patterns, but I am afraid that they won't fit!

Great outfit! My daughter was too old by the time American Girl dolls got popular.
Here is another site that lists measurements. http://www.knitting-and.com/knitting...doll-sizes.htm And another http://www.susankramer.com/dolls16.html They seem to agree so maybe it's accuarate. |
I have read that some of the torsos are "fatter" than others, apparently depending on the name of the doll. It's the waistline that can be slightly different.
I have one of the "fatter" dolls, but it's in the bottom plastic container of a stack of 12 hemmed in by other plastic containers. (Sadly, an example of stash overload for storage area available.) If no one else has a doll to measure for you, I will pull out that container and do it. But I think I'll wait a few days and see if someone else has a doll more convenient to reach. |
I know they have commercial patterns for the American Girl Dolls. If you look them up on line, it might give you the sizes you need. I love your outfit! I love making doll clothes, they last forever, my grandkids are playing with ones my daughter played with 25 years ago!!

i bought a pattern at Joanns, to make some clothes out of fleece and felt. my neighbors granddaughter got one of those dolls for Christmas ...it just says 18" dolls. not really sure if they will fit or not..lol

Thanks everyone! The measurements on that website was just what I needed. Prism99 your storage closet is safe for yet another day!
I made a Newfoundland Tartan skirt this afternoon and cut out and worked on a yellow sslicker and hat. This doll clothes making is addictive. |
