When hand sewing your binding do you use double thread or single?

I use single. But I usually only hand sew on wall hangings or coasters.

I usually use double thread and knot it often so it doesn't mess up the whole side of the quilt if the thread breaks. I think the binding takes a lot of wear and needs to be extra sturdy.

I use single but a hand quilting weight thread usually.

I only use a single thread. The 10 year old baby quilts I made with hand finished binding that have been washed and washed and the binding and stitching are fine.
