Another cancer comfort quilt qurstion

Should we wash the quilt before we bring it to the facility or do they wash them? What about a label? What about if there is dog in residence? Our dear golden lab/retriever passed away at 13.5 this summer but I am sure there is still a few hairs around.

What a nice thing to do! I would wash it. I wash every quilt I gift, mainly to make sure there isn't a problem lurking. I wash them in All, which is one of the detergents that is a milder one.

I would wash it before taking it to the facility and let them know it's been washed. They may opt to wash it again & then again, they may not. I don't think a label is necessary but one might be nice that just says something like "made with love for you" or "made especially for you". I wouldn't be concerned about any dog hairs.

My suggestion would be to contact the facility and ask!!
..... many have specific "rules" regarding fabrics/battings used, sizes, laundering, labeling, pets, scents, etc.

It's always best to ask before you make a quilt for any facility or organization.
Better to know up front, than to risk disappointment on delivery,
should a quilt not meet their requirements.

Good Luck!

My friend had breast cancer and did not want anything pink. Maybe something to consider.

I have breast cancer--went thru chemo & radiation. Soaps & lotions were a big problem because of the perfumes. I had bad reactions a few times...so check with the oncologist---and at least use detergent that's unscented. I use vinegar instead of softener, too. Thanks for doing this---I know personally how much it's appreciated!

I wash all my quilts in coldwater Tide and don't use fabric softener.

Sweet of you to make this! Will be appreciated for a special someone. For washing, I suggest using a low-scent detergent, and using vinegar as a natural fabric softener. (The quilt will not have a scent out of the dryer.)

I agree....wash it. I use Dreft baby laundry detergent. Your gift will be a blessing.
