another copyright question

I have been sorting my fabrics and came across a fat quarter that is aqua with very small dots in black all over it. The dots are about the size of a pencil lead. The salvage says "copyright protected". How can that fabric be copyright protected when it is such a common fabric and pattern? It is cotton and I think I bought it at JoAnn's.

it might been a LINE of fabrics that were all under ONE copyright!

I can't imagine an arrangement of spots even being copyright able since there's nothing unique or even particularly artistic about them.

Thanks. Scissor Queen expressed my thoughts exactly. Jacquie, your thoughts are probably what happened. This fabric has been in my stash for a long time.
