Hi friends,
I've been looking at Brother and Janome Embroidery machines and they are around 1000.00 give or take. Well today I saw on Amazon a Brother combination machine much cheaper. Here's the thing: I don't need a sewing machine but I like the prices. Do they embroider as well as the embroidery only machines??? By the prices I would think probably not but have no experience on these machines. Any help is greatly appreciated. I want to embroider but really don't want to spend a lot. Thanks, Sue |
I have a Brother machine that does both. I didn't need both, but the price was right. I leave it set up to embroider. And someday, when I have to take my sewing machine in for service... I'll have the other one and can keep on working. Just a thought.

Mona, does it embroider well??
Thanks |
I have a brother that does both. I am thrilled with the machine. It is very user friendly and does beautiful embroidery work. I bought it only for embroidery, but now use it for most of my sewing.

I have 2 combination machines. One I use 99.9% for sewing the other 100% for embroidery. I like the embroidery on the 'sewing' machine better, but I hate the software and the size is limited, but it sews beautifully! My 'embroidery' machine was lots cheaper through a friend and that is why I picked it up and so glad I did.
Go for the combo you probably won't be disappointed. |

You may want to decide what size you want to embroidery. Some models only do 4x4, and I have found the 5x7 is very useful too. I have a Janome and have had nothing but trouble. My friends love their Brother machines.

I have a Janome 350E and love it. I began with a Brother combo and knew within a week that I wanted a larger hoopsize other than the 4x4 it offered. I also think it is important to think about how much use and just what you will be embroidering. I do quilt labels, tea towels, aprons, quilt squares, wallhangings.

I've owned 3 Brother embroidery machines, one embroidery only, 2 combo, beautiful stitching, great, dependable machines.
Both my combo machines were/are set up for embroidery only. I will probably never sew on the one I currently have because I have a couple of regular sewing machines. And I keep my embroidery machine on top of a high dresser for easier accessibility. It would be too difficult to move it to a table for sewing. But as far as capabilities, it is an awesome sewing machine. I also own Bernina 600 and 650 embroidery only sewing machines, the hoop size is limited, but the stitching is gorgeous, and the designs already included in the machine are some of the best stitch outs I've seen as well. |
