Another flannel quilt question
Can you use regular cotton fabric as a backing on a flannel pieced top?
Would you recommend using a poly batting? |
I've only done it the other way around (cotton top/flannel back) but what would be the difference? I used W&N but then I use that for everything. Can't see why you couldn't use any batting of your choice. Just wash your flannel as it will probably shrink quite a bit.

Don't think it matters with 'mixing' quilting cotton fabric with flannel. Just make sure everything is pre shrunk. Wash, dry and measure the flannel until it stops shrinking. Might take a few wash-dry cycles. the up side is it usually gets thicker & softer. I always use cotton batting.

Thanks, this is the first time I am using flannel and since it is for an auction I don't want to screw it up.

By all means you can use regular cotton fabric for a backing with a flannel top. Batting can be what ever you like !

I do it all the time with Linus quilts. They make such cute kids prints in flannel. I use the poly batting that comes in a ten yard roll 48" wide that I buy at Joanns everytime it is on sale. At any given time I have at least two rolls of it ready to be used.
