Mostly, I like my local, (30 mi. away) Joann's store. One of my C'mas wish list items has been EQ6. My DH took my 50% off coupon to our local Joann's store yesterday with the intention of getting it for me. NO ONE had any idea what he was talking about when he asked for it!!!!!! So...he told me about his unhappy shopping trip, but also told me to NOT go buy it....he will find it somewhere. I'll let him know that if he orders it online thru' Joann's, he can still use the 50% coupon.

Merry/Happy Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanza to all my wonderful online quilting friends.

amma 12-23-2009 12:10 PM

I don't think the coupon works for software, sewing machines and a few other items.... sorry....

But someone on here found it on sale for around $125 :D

Pzazz 12-23-2009 01:46 PM

Dang...50% off makes is SOOOO much more reasonable!!!! LOL Thanks for the heads-up on that.

rivka 12-23-2009 02:48 PM

I bought my copy at diy-moms.com -- the list price on there is $149.95, but once you put it in your shopping cart, it's $129.95.

amma 12-23-2009 02:58 PM

Sorry....I didn't want to be your Grinch, but I thought you would want to know... (((HUGS)))

Tiffany 12-23-2009 03:19 PM

It was sure sweet of your hubby to attempt to get it for you!

I've heard others have been able to pick it up off Ebay for less than $100, but I haven't checked myself so I honestly don't know. If you can find it for less, more power to you!

Bevanger 12-24-2009 05:56 AM

i hate when that happens. i wish they'd hire ppl who know about sewing.

At the very least, know what products they carry!!!!! LOL

I agree that it was sweet of DH to attempt to buy it for you.

However, most JoAnn's don't carry software in the stores, it is usually an on-line purchase. Fine print tells you the coupons, especially the 50% off, cannot be used on software and other big ticket items.

Sorry.

Try Clotilde, e-bay, or Google EQ-6 and see what comes up. Alot of quilt stores carry it and will surely have after-Christmas sales on it to reduce inventory for the new year.

Merry Christmas!

They need to educate their people.

Here's my aarrggghh JoAnn's story along with a happy JoAnn story. I was given $120 in gift cards by hubby, son, and mom (along with $50 to my favorite LQS!). I went to JoAnn on Saturday, but it looks like they anticipated that all the quilters would come - they put every bit if quilting cotton on sale for $1 off. Wow. Big deal. A whole $1 off. That meant that you couldn't use your coupons. I had 5 different coupons for 40-50% off and was hoping to get 5 - 6 yards each of some good fabric (blacks/whites/creams) and use the coupons. Oh well. I'll wait until they're back to full price. But all was not lost - I went over to their red tag bins, and found all kinds of good quality quilting cotton in colors and patterns I liked for $3-5 a yard. I stocked up on 1/4 and 1/2 yard cuts

What I really liked was getting lots of extra "end-of-bolt" cuts - if you know roughly what's left on a roll, and ask for less than that, they give you the rest at half price. So I got lots of extra fabric for $1.50-2.50 a yard. Wheeee!

Cyndi H 12-27-2009 06:55 PM

They always give "end-of-bolt" discounts - even on the regular-priced fabrics (including the expensive batiks), and I don't have to ask for it. It has to be when you ask for less than what's left - and they want to get rid of the remaining. It's usually when there's just a yard or less. I paid full price, though, on some other fabric, when I wanted MORE than what was on the bolt and wanted all they had on two almost-empty bolts. (But it was worth it - it was a white-on-cream print that I use for backgrounds on lots of quilts.) And yes, I definitely will go back and use those coupons!

amma 12-27-2009 07:13 PM

Did you get your EQ program for Christmas this year?

I love those end of bolt discounts and their red tagged fabrics :D:D:D

Yes, I shop at JoAnns regularly :D:D:D

I don't get the impression that is something that is high on their list. When I applied to Joann's I was told I was too qualified. Um, okay.

My Joanns usually won't do this, unless they simply don't want to hang onto the fabric. And it seems to depend on who is working as to whether I can get this discount or not. :hunf:

Here is something I just learned from a gal who works at my Joanns. She's been there for many years and is one of the few gals I trust. We were discussing fabric and the fact that cotton fabrics have a natural mold that grows on them. I learned this because of having allergy tests done and finding out I'm highly allergic to this type of mold. (Another excellent reason to wash fabric the moment I get it home!) Interestingly enough, she told me that the majority of the fabric they get comes from out of country and that when it is imported it is first fumigated (spelling?) and then sprayed with insecticides because of all the bugs and stuff that come with the fabric. She said there are times she is stunned by some of the things they find that come along in those boxes of fabric & if people realized it they would always wash their fabrics before using them. :( Okay, EW!!!!!

craftygma47 12-28-2009 10:13 PM

My Joanns doesn't carry eq6 either. I asked too and they did not know what it was, asked around and finally found someone that knew but said they did not carry it. Seems to be an epidemic lately that they don't know or don't have what you need. But on the up side someone remembered us and something we shopped for on a previous trip. Since they get so much of my money every month, I say they should know my address and phone number too. These new big stores are not as nice as the little fabric stores they used to be.

I always get the end of the bolt discount too. Say I ask for 3 yards of material and there is 3 and 1/2 yards on the bolt. They'll ask if I want to get the rest of the bolt for a discount. My daughter and I almost always take the discount.

Yup - so learn the trick to estimating how much is left on the bolt, and then asking for a little bit less. If there's less than a yard left, that's what you can get at (usually) 50% off.

I also ALWAYS scope out their racks of remnants.

Pzazz 12-29-2009 06:39 PM

While at Joann's today, I started up a conversation with the gal cutting, and the gal ahead of me. (Her fabric being cut). I mentioned that several Joann stores give a % off if there is only a small amt left on the bolt after what the customer wants....and does this Joann's do that? This gal talked herself around in circles so much, that I figured she didnt' really know the answer. She did end up giving 75% off on a couple of end-cuts for that customer. (She thanked me when we got to the till). I suspect she would not have done so had I not started that conversation. Oh, and I came home with about $79. of fabric and notions....saved about $24.

crkathleen 12-29-2009 07:21 PM

I went into Joann's on the 26th and walked over to the red tagged section. Everything was 50% off after the already reduced prices.
I ended up getting a 1.2 yards of VIP fabric for $2.25.
Wish I had some extra cash. I'd have done some damage! haha

Cyndi H 12-29-2009 07:35 PM

See how we turned an "aaarrgghh" thread into a good one? This was cool!

Eddie 12-29-2009 07:38 PM

Speaking of end of bolt discounts, I went into Wal-Mart the other day to get 3 yards each of a couple of fabrics I wanted. When she measured out the first one, there was only 3.5 yards on it. So she just threw in the extra 1/2 yard for free. :D Then she measured out the second one and it had 3.75 yards on it, so she threw in the extra 3/4 yards for free. I like that kind of discount! :D

Oklahoma Suzie 12-29-2009 07:40 PM

We don't have a joann's here, but hancocks is just as bad. The girls don't seem to know very much.

nursie76 12-29-2009 07:43 PM

I will have to remember the end of bolt discount next time I go to Joanns.

If you are a member of AQS )American Quilters Society, they have EQ6 for about $119. That's where hubby got mine.

weezie 12-29-2009 09:10 PM

I only get end-of-bolt discounts when I ask ... which is wrong, wrong, wrong ... I shouldn't have to ask! Furthermore, most of my coupons end up in my trash because invariably the fabric is all marked down (a bit) during the same dates the coupons are valid. Since I already have quite a large supply of rotary cutter blades and machine needles, etc., unless I can find someone to give my coupons to, they are a waste of paper.

I get lucky sometimes at the Red Tag table; sometimes they have some of their most expensive, highest quality 100% cotton there and if I have a 10, 15 or 20% off total purchase coupon and also an end-of-bolt discount, I walk out of there feeling lucky and patting myself on the back.

For those of you who do machine embroidery or anything that requires stabilizers, those coupons are good for buying stabilizer. (I buy the whole bolt.)
