Have strip joined this Rainbow quilt top for my GD Emma. Sandwiched w/lavender flannel. Batting Hobbs cotton 2-4 inch spacing. Should I SID -crosshatch or wavy lines ?
She wants deep purple binding. |
I would either SID or wavy lines...cross hatching is too much work!
Hmmmm,, since it's to be a rainbow, large curved lines....
It depends. I love crosshatching but with all the colors, it might not work out. I would stitch in the ditch and then maybe do a curving line or circles or loops and have fun in each strip.
I would not SITD on a quilt like this, where all the seams go in the same direction. I don't think it would add anything to the quilt, and it might even make it a little wonky. I like nativetexan's idea of long curved lines. Or Baptist fan would be great.

This will be lovely! I did a similar rainbow quilt. I find it extremely difficult to do sitd. Instead, I did a straight stitch about 1/4 inch on each side of the lengthwise seams. I like it...simple and clean looking.
But I bet whatever you do will look awesome! Penny |

I vote for straight line.
If you have a walking foot for SITD, I would think it would be fine.
I did one a lot like yours and did a wavy line down the center of each strip. It went fast and looked really cool when done. Brenda

What about large Baptist Fan curves?
Wow , like the straight lines too. Please post when finished with yours. I have been doing a lot of straight lines too,on DSM.

Go down the page there is a sample of wavy lines with some pebble filler. |
Thanks for all the super suggestions. I ended up doing large serpentine rows between the pieced strips using a variegated purple thread. W/ the walking foot it went pretty quick. Kinda lazy really since its a quicky one before fall bazaar in a couple of weeks.. I will post pic once I get binding completed.
I personally would do mine just like this one
Like Pensters idea. Looks great or the long curvy line works too
With so many seams, I vote for wavy lines which cross the seams and hold them down but are not hard to do. I would not do narrow seams across the strips.

I'd vote for Baptist fans for a rainbow effect.
