Another plea for help...which sashing??

2 Attachment(s)
Hello!
I have made a bunch of scrappy blocks using HSTs, which I want to put together using colored sashing and cornerstones. But, I can't decided which color I want. No, actually, that's not true. I know which color I like, but my local brains trust (aka my family members) all disagree with me!
The bright colors and contrast in the blocks make my heart sing, and I want the sashing to complement and continue that.
What do you think? Tan or blue? Or something else entirely? (Just not white...I don't like how it blends the blocks together and their definition gets lost...I believe it needs something that helps define the blocks, without overwhelming them or losing them.)
Thanks for any and all opinions! :)

Definitely the blue. Gives the quilt more pop.

I like the blue with the tan cornerstones. If you want mild, contained and non-invasive, then use the tan. Either works. But I like vibrant!

The sashing looks good in the blue. A medium pure yellow would look good also, like in the blocks. The tan is too dull in my opinion and looks dingy against the white.

intoquilting 06-10-2020 08:59 AM

My vote is for the blue.

loisf 06-10-2020 09:11 AM

I don't see any tan in the blocks, so I would definitely not use it for sashing, and maybe not for the cornerstones either. I think the blue looks great, but I would go with a yellow or pink for the cornerstones. Your blocks are really pretty. It will be a lovely quilt.

Hmmmm -

On my monitor - the blue looks "heavy" - and that's what I see first. Especially on the thumbnail pictures (which I don't like - but better than no pictures at all) , the blue looks like heavy grid lines with pale patterned centers.

while the tan is sort of "just there" - I think the blocks looked more vibrant with the tan sashing. I prefer the tan sashing.

The blue is perfect! The tan looks really blah and doesn't go with it.

Three Dog Night 06-10-2020 09:57 AM

The blue, makes the quilt look brighter.

Bear, click or tap on the thumbnails and it will take you to a full-size picture.

OP, my vote is strongly for the blue, with cornerstones of the different colors used in the blocks,

I vote for the blue sashing as it really makes your blocks show more.

sewbizgirl 06-10-2020 10:20 AM

Definitely the blue!

Taughtby Grandma 06-10-2020 10:25 AM

I like the blue. It draws out the colors in the blocks. I like all the blocks too. This is really going to be a pretty quilt.

Kelsie 06-10-2020 10:28 AM

Oh, I definitely like the blue and I am not even a blue fan. But loisf has a point about the cornerstones, do you have enough fabric of one of your pinks to use it for the cornerstones instead?

suern3 06-10-2020 01:45 PM

I think you have your answer within your post, "It makes my heart sing". This is exactly the feeling we hope to have when making a quilt! Listen to your heart! Since you asked for an opinion, I also like the blue sashing in this quilt. As some have said, maybe look for a different color for the corner stones. Yellow would be pretty as would the pink. I don't think tan belongs in this quilt.

granky 06-10-2020 01:58 PM

Definitely the blue.....

QuiltnNan 06-10-2020 02:32 PM

I feel the blue sashing gives the blocks a better frame

Quiltah Mama 06-10-2020 03:55 PM

My vote is for the blue. Nice scrappy blocks BTW too.

IrishNY 06-10-2020 03:56 PM

Just love the blue!

maT 06-10-2020 04:33 PM

Blue for sure!

Mary Christine 06-10-2020 04:59 PM

The blue for sure!

Abashobbes 06-10-2020 05:08 PM

Definitely blue

LAF2019 06-10-2020 05:22 PM

I think you have pretty consistent answers here. I would like to see a variety of colors for the cornerstones, it will coordinate with your scrappy blocks. I think having too much consistency within your sashing is going to somehow visually conflict with the blocks. shoot, I think it would look good with scrappy inconsistent sashing too. but that's just me. love your blocks by the way!

Jingle 06-10-2020 06:21 PM

Blue for sure and I would not use the tan as cornerstones.

mrs. fitz 06-10-2020 07:35 PM

A vote for Blue!

WMUTeach 06-11-2020 02:44 AM

Like the blue best. When I was just looking at the thumbnail photos, my eye went to the blue grid. I MHO they allow each block to shine in its own little frame rather than blend in with the tan frame. But... in the end, it is your quilt.

I agree. Before enlarging the thumbnail pictures, the blue is dominant and the blocks are lost. The tan does nothing to compliment the blocks. I'd try another color--perhaps a yellow? That might be where your thought of the tan originated but it needs more pop that the tan provides. Pretty blocks--show them off!

PiedPiper 06-11-2020 04:17 AM

Thanks everyone! Blue it is, and I think I will take your advice also to make the cornerstones scrappy...I have plenty of fabric left! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/cool.png

Kitsie 06-11-2020 08:21 AM

Go blue! I like the contrast.

juliasb 06-11-2020 08:27 AM

You might want to consider even a darker blue for your sashings. That will makes the blocks pop! The darker the fabric the more pop!

P-BurgKay 06-11-2020 01:27 PM

I like the blue. But the choice is yours. Either would be good.

lovemyavy 06-11-2020 01:59 PM

I agree with juliasb .. a darker blue, like the dark blue in the blocks, would really make it all pop. Beautiful quilt!

Waal 06-11-2020 02:22 PM

Definitely the blue!

Karamarie 06-11-2020 03:19 PM

Blue is my choice also. Very pretty!

ccthomas 06-11-2020 04:24 PM

Blue sashing and let your heart sing.

copycat 06-12-2020 02:23 AM

Oh how I love blue,,,so of course I am choosing the blue sash. The colors of the blocks are so crisp with the blue sash.

knitnnan 06-13-2020 02:23 AM

I like the look of the blue sashing better.

dove 06-13-2020 11:23 AM

I like the blue...makes the blocks stand out and gives contrast. The tan seems washed out if you know what I mean. Hope I get to see the finished product!😃

mjpEncinitas 06-13-2020 03:28 PM

Blue, blue, blue!
